I can't think of a reason why they couldn't serve someone on a horse!

I've seen a BurgerKing not bat an eyelid at serving riders on the drive-through.
    I suspect idiot managers.
The rider probably had to bring the horse inside the restaurant because there was no facility to lock up a horse with a D-lock outside.

As protests go, you have to admit it's quite a good one :D
I thought the fixed penalty was a bit harsh, as there were obviously no stables provided

Of course the horse shat itself in the diner. It probably recognized some of the burgers.

Can anyone give another reason that arrogance that the centuries old tradition of tying the horse up OUTSIDE the Inn was nt good enough for this woman?

In case they mistook it for a fresh delivery?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I have no real probs with horses although I wouldn't have one. My friend has ponies for all her kids and they have become competent riders. Have run with her and her kids and the horses and loads of dogs on country lanes very often. They are brilliant for disabled folks. Have worked with kids who have poor mobility and its amazing to see the difference in them when on a horse. Love the ADI volunteers who give up their time to make this happen...

I don't really like them because they are just so big, scary and unpredictable. Just not my cup of tea

Just to bring this thread back for a bit....
Last week I was out on a ride I do semi regularly, including a long, anti social climb which is a bit of a test for my level of fitness  Half way up and puffing a bit, I spotted a pair of horse riders up ahead on my side of the road.
Perhaps because I had 5 minutes to think about it, I actually started to doubt how to "announce" my passing.
Luckily the evening traffic was very quiet so I pulled well out into the road, and about 2 horse lengths back, in a calm, quiet, level voice said "Evening Ladies" (my mind had gone completely blank due to the effort of peddling and thinking at the same time).
Now the lead horse never even flinched, but the rear one nearly did a back flip  All credit to the rider who, thankfully stayed in the saddle and had the horse under control in about 2 seconds!
Also luckily for me both ladies were pretty young, so they just laughed as I apologised, but I could have seen a more "worldly wise" lady having a bit of a fit at that point!

That encounter left me even more confused as how to pass them. Bloody horses :?

Count to100, take a cold shower, watch some porn... Anything
  • Never see the point in riding a horse along a road, quicker to walk? I can only assume they are on their way to a field or something rather than being the entire purpose of their trip?

My friend and her kids does tethrathons on them, I think it involves shooting, running, horsing and summat else. Could use the shooting to dispatch the flipping horse methinks ...

Just looked it up, running riding swimming and shooting... Sounds like pentathlon for plebs as I assume fencing is not something that many can afford to learn outside of public school

What this forum needs is someone extremely wealthy to confirm either way.

Yes I did sound a bit snobby... If I remember, she said it was because there are very few clubs around and it would be extremely difficult to travel long distances and with the expense of four kids. Looking at the website, they do seem keen to promote beginner courses

Well, I'd forgotten all about this one.

I still have a major problem with horses.

And don't get me started on dogs.

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Yeah, my daughter has done it once. Unfortunately I'm not extremely wealthy or even remotely wealthy. Not sure why some people who like prancing around in lycra on ridiculously expensive pieces of plastic feel the need to criticise the hobbies and past times that others choose though.

It seems to be because the horsists insist on riding on our roads, despite not paying any road tax. They get in the way of people who are actually going places and want to get past them, and they disobey all the rules of the road

What are the theoretical CO2 emission rates per kilometre for a horse, though?

Not sure about CO2, but their methane output can be quite impressive.

Ah right, fair enough then. Get them off the road, they probably don't have insurance either and I expect they jump red lights too!
