OK do the SDW randonee without a backpack. You may be lucky or fast, but personally I cannot ride 100 miles/1300 ft climbing without food, water, and normally a shed load of spares. I can't see how a bit of tarmac can help me.

Like others I commute with one. If I can help it though the only other time you'll see me with one is on the way to/from a race (food, kit options, tools etc).

I regularly ride my MTB off road completely naked, I get ripped to shreds, and if I get a mechanical it's a naked walk, but it's part of the fun right!?
