Contador won both in 2011, but then after his retrospective ban was applied Scarponi won both. It's quite common in the Giro and Vuelta to win both.

    really? !

    interesting.

it might not even have been that sprint - it might be the next one - confused.

    Wasted energy for the finish.
He should be happy, after last year's so near, yet so far.

Dan Lloyd was saying that the course was amended and that the sprint had moved from 16k out to 20k out but it turns out even though the course had been amended the original sprint point at 16k stood - phew - bit of wasted energy there from cav - not the cycling - the swearing

The green jersey in the Tour is a sprinters' competition because flat stages are worth double points. The Giro has the same points for all stages (including TTs), so GC riders in the front group on mountain finishes can pick up lots of points accidentally. Especially if they're going for time bonuses. As we've seen here and last year, you really have to win every flat stage and a load of intermediates to pick up the red jersey as a sprinter.

er, there's no need for them all to go full pelt, is there? Maybe it's v. poor form not to?

Has Cav definitely got enough points now?

Long way for OPQS to stay in front

OK - he's apparently got it. Too confusing and hope he's got enough left for the finish.
