Applies perhaps to the riders - 33.5 km/hr for the first hour, 35.1 km/hr for the second.
Gazelli was able to give an interview while riding along to a RAI reporter on a motorbike!

It's picked up a bit now, maybe as the first sprint is on the horizon, but still under 40 km/hr.

Garzelli being interviewed. Maybe this is his last race, or at least Grand Tour stage?

Brasilian rider Andriato talking shop with Cavendish.

Time to sit in the garden. Back in 70kms.

So will Cav chase the intermediates? That would mean he can afford to finish a few places lower, but Cav will surely contest the stage and take a top 5 and the jersey, or be no-where.

Major drama yet for the PTP GC leotard: TWH soloing off the front with an audacious, panachetastic Viviani pick.

If he can get 12 pts from them the stage finish won't matter. I would still expect him to contest it though.

Edit - 15:26. 137 km. Intermediate sprint of Sirmione won by M. CAVENDISH (151). 8 down 4 to go. Final intermediate is within the laps around Brescia with just 25km to go.

Currently watching a fairly decent fight back from Lleyton Hewitt, don't even like tennis......

Do you get the impression that Cav is getting the intermediates uncontested - in that the others think he deserves it so letting him take the points? Seems like Nibali isn't too fussed and rightly so.

Slow news? The Home Secretary riding as a ringer in the BBC Squad qualifies as a bombshell. [Also, there's a pleasing coincidence in the site hosting that image.]

I've found a stream with Kirby and Lloyd doing the commentary - brilliant - like 2 kids on the last day at school

    Nibali, the man says.

So if Cav don't overtake him, who gets the red jersey?

    Nibs will get both, then.

Gotta love Eurosport. Arrive an hour behind schedule, then 2 ad breaks within 10 minutes.

Cav will secure the red jersey at the next intermediate sprint.

What's the mechanic squeezing here, risking his promising concert pianist career.

I'm not sure, but I am confident that even leaning out of the window of a car and only using one hand on a moving bike he will have achieved more than I did trying to fix my bike this afternoon.

Contador won both in 2011, but then after his retrospective ban was applied Scarponi won both. It's quite common in the Giro and Vuelta to win both.
