    A nice round number!

Analytic cycling says you could do a sub-60 kilo off that if you have low frontal area :http://www.analyticcycling.com/DiffEqMotionKilo_Page.html

its all a load of bollocks.

im 70kg and i have a 1 min power of 550-600 watts, that chart would put me as a 4th cat. yet im a pretty good 2nd cat...dont read into it too much

No, the chart says you'd be a "4th cat" in the Kilo (the event relevant to 1 minute power) your road category is irrelevant.

On the contrary, I recommend people read ALL the author's notes that accompany the power profile chart, for the very reason to avoid the misunderstanding you have just made, and to learn about why it is a very useful tool.

IOW, it is not a race categorisation tool (that's what racing is for), but rather a means to establish your individual power profile to provide insight into your particular physiological characteristics. There have been pro tour riders with grand tour stage victories with 5-second power in the "untrained" category.

...to a certain degree, you must admit.

my 5 second power is also 4th cat level. although i have sprinted to top 10 elite races. (unless my tacx turbo trainer is way out.)

the most accurate part of that chart, (for me) is the 20 min power.

you guys are probably right in what you are saying, but seeing as this is a forum open to different opinions i would say not get too hung up with figures .

    your tacx is wrong.

nor is it generally possible to obtain peak sprint powers on a turbo trainer. off the top of my head i'm probably down a hundred watts sprinting on the turbo.

that would make sense. i have always wanted to use a true power meter. the figures have always bewildered me.

    +1

even saw a massive difference with FTP from my tacx to my SRM, from about 3.5 to 4.5 - Now I hope the SRM is accurate!
