20 miles today on my local loop, weather was great, but had been hammering down most of the week, so whilst most of the route was dry/fast there were some very muddy/flooded sections!.....

I broke out in a cold sweat and couldn't bare to leave it that dirty for any longer.....

Deffo need to get some higher bars on this!... As its killing my back after a couple of hours in the saddle!..... My azonics were 2" rise, these are 0.5" and the old stem was 70mm long with a 10 degree rise, the new one is 50mm and has no rise! That's quite a lot lower than it was previously!

I'm looking at the Renthal Fat bars, with a 38mm rise, possibly the duo stem to match and have a bit more rise as well but it's a bit ugly?

I'm also not sure about the gold colour of the renthals, it's not really gold is it? More like a bright beige..... So really unsure about that!

The other option I was considering was some black bars, possibly the nukeproof 'Sam hill edition' and then buy the gold dress up kit for the Thomson stem.

I also want to change the tyres, in my bid to get rid of the weight/width of the 2.5 maxxis highrollers I went too small with the panaracers... They look tiny in the frame and they also seem a bit skittish compared to the maxxis...
I'm thinking of going for a maxxis minion dhf both front and rear (not the Dhr) with a 60a on the back and a 42a compound on the front.
But the old Hans Dampf thing keeps popping up in my mind, they are about £25 each on CRC at the mo for the non trail star/pace star compounds, so a little undecided at the moment!

Cassette really needs changing too, want to get an 11-34 XT cassette, and I've found the mode converter for the mech so I can do so! Just dreading taking the old cassette of the pro2 hub body

New bars fitted today! After looking for what seems like an age, I decided on the Spank Spike 777 evos, with a 30mm rise in glass black!

I also bought a dress up kit for the thomson stem, so it brings the gold theme back in, without being as 'in your face' as the gold bars!

All fitted! Looking much more classy! And feels loads nice already with the higher rise!

Unfortunately, on my last check that all the bolts were tight, I ripped the threads clean out of the thomson stem steerer clamp (top one) I must have just been too ham fisted!
Expensive mistake! New stem ordered! :(

    Could've got it helicoiled?

    Could've got it helicoiled?

Possibly! I'll look into it, as I will put it on the MsIsle if it can be sorted!

I've been made aware that the stem I have is quite an old one, the newer ones now use a 3mm Allen key head, as the older 4mm bolts like mine were being over tightened quite a lot!

A few years back when I bought my Speed Triple and pulled it apart the previous numpty owner had stripped the thread of one of the handlebar risers (the parts that clamp the bars, like the stem does on an MTB), so the bars were only been held on by one riser (bit worrying, considering I'd been wheelying it and generally caning it like a naughty boy for a couple of weeks like that). Anyway, I got it drilled, tapped and helicoiled for £5. Had a snapped exhaust stud drilled out of my ex's cylinder head, tapped and helicoiled too for a tenner. It's usually doable, and it's as good as the original thread when it's done right.

Stem arrived today! What I read was right in that this one has come with 3mm bolt heads rather than the 4mm ones in the old stem!

I also realised that when I bought the stem faceplate it came with two new sets of bolts (6 silver ones & 6 black ones) which I didn't use because there was nothing wrong with the ones already in the stem! However, now I've looked again these are the newer 3mm bolts!! So I could have saved myself some money if I'd fitted them and not been able to over tighten them! Grrrrr!

Also got my Hans Dampfs from Germany yesterday too! Quick delivery to say they came from overseas! They are pretty big, but not a lot heavier than the panaracers and a fair bit lighter than the Maxxis 2.5's that I had on before!

Looking forward to riding this weekend! It's been a few weeks!

Took advantage of CRC's cheap XT cassette deal, with a £10 off code I also bought a new chain (so the old chain & cassette can go on the commuter) a gold cassette lock ring and a set of hope jockey wheels, for no other reason than they look blingy!

I think I was lucky with the old tiagra cassette, 18 months use on an alloy freehub and it just slid off with minimal damage!

nasty clavicale fracture - what's the diagnosis of the fracture, are you having to get surgery?

Think you mean "clavicle" and "prognosis"

I'm not a doctor, but from that x-ray I'd guess hopefully not - looks like a clean break (although quite displaced). Only about 10% of cases need plating, they told me when I broke mine. Otherwise they just give you a cloth sling and safety pin and tell you to try not to move your arm for the next 3 weeks.

nope diagnosis, fractures have different levels. The type of fracture determine what actions are taken. Prognosis would be the guess of eventual outcome of the injury e.g can't raise arm above certain level. I am a doctor just not a medical one

The diagnosis is the fracture itself - self evident from the X-Ray. The prognosis is (as you say) the predicted outcome. Asking what is the diagnosis is pointless, when you can clearly see it in the X-Ray.

Either way, it's a real pain in the butt - you're far better off breaking your arm.

xrays don't show all the damage you get from a break - a lot of the problems that arise are from tendon damage ;) anyway this is getting off topic :|

Never mind, he's probably looking for something to distract him from the pain about now anyway, lol. At least I got a few grand for breaking mine, that helped.

Tbh, I'm not in that much pain with it. I can move my arm into most positions including well above my head.

Having spoken to two different fracture specialists they both said if I wanted an op they'd be more than happy to do it, but if it was their collar bone, they wouldn't!

As above the break is pretty clean and they are 95% sure it'll heal on its own, so that's good enough for me! No point cutting into me to plate it and screw it for the sake of 5% chance I guess!

I'm managing ok at the mo, so didn't wanna screw that up! They said I should wear my sling for 2 weeks, but only when I'm up and about... After that I need to start doing stuff without it.

    Back in the game!

Back commuting on the Msilse now, after a rebuild during my injury time.

Been commuting for a week now after a week in Tenerife and It seems to be holding up ok. Get the odd pain when trying to hop up on to things, but nothing too bad.

Hope to dust off the Mega this weekend.......:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

Did a quick 17 miler on this at the weekend and loved it.....

Still not really happy with the suspension though! Its very plush but feels a bit dead and not as 'poppy' as i'd like even with no rebound dampening wound in either end.

Seriously considering swapping the fork for a 150mm Sektor RL solo air, Ive found one at a nice price, it means dropping 10mm of travel and reducing the axle size to 15mm but it also saves about 1kg in weight and I also prefer the feel of my air recon on the Msisle to the domain.

    Hmmmm what to do?
