whats your first 10 mike TT time

That's a solid time that. What TT frame/bike you looking to build up?0

No idea yet, very much in the research stage .. I've not got loads of money so reckon I'll blow £400 on a second hand frame and then I'll just bung anything I can lay my hands on in terms of wheels, bars etc.
It'll be an ebay bitsa.
If I have a good time next season, I'll look to start upgrading the wheels, tyres etc0 -

I'll have a look into those so thanks for the heads up .. but I really don't have a lot of cash.
Was thinking of putting my current commuter wheels on the TT bike for the first season because I need to replace them anyway (front rim getting thin) and so they will effectively be free and I'm willing to chance their reliability because I won't be putting many miles on them (not willing to risk it commuting). I'm more interested in getting a good aero fit/position and a frame that will last a few seasons. And I'd rather pay more for the frame now - getting one that will last rather than spending on what I understand to be the small marginal gains I'd get from full on aero wheels.
My reading on the subject of spending money for TT was that I should get a skin suit next rather than upgrading wheels. Hoping to get one of those for approx £30.
But hey - I'd love to have some deep profile carbon wheels, they sure look cool .. unfortunately they just may have to wait.
P.s I promise to take off the spoke reflectors if I do use my commuter wheels on the TT bike0 -
1 year ago; 27.35- normal rode bike, flatish course but can get windy. I was pretty chuffed with that, I was just looking to break evens! I'd been riding for just short of a year.
Best this year is a 26.27, same bike, same course (still haven't got round to putting aero bars on though!).
I'm not serious about TTing, but for a reference, decent club cyclists are doing 23 mins give or take, mostly on TT bikes. 1st place is usually around the 20/21 min mark.
Some of these times are very good for 1st attempts, although it does depend on your prior cycling backround.0 -

From my experience I definitely gained more time when I got a skin suit and helmet compared to deep section wheels. You can really feel it on windy days as your clothing doesn't catch and flap in the wind.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Well I finally bit the bullet and gave it a go last night. Standard road bike and nothing remotely aero so I was pleased to go under 28 minutes with a time of 27.58.
Now I'm just worried that I'm going to spend the winter pondering over new bits of kit for next year...0 -
Set another PB on Tuesday. 21:47 on a "sporting" course, although only 9.1 miles. I smashed my PB by exactly 1 minute which was good. Road bike - no aero anything.

Never done an official 10TT as I'm a wimp... but there is a local 10 mile TT loop that is marked as a Strava Segment. Just been out to do it and got 27:52 (standard road bike and road kit). Happy enough with that to consider seeing what kinda times I could get in an organised event so will look for some early next year. If I can get my time on the road bike down below 25 minutes I will allow myself to consider TT specific upgrades (now there's some good motivation).0
