Nice bit of writing from Tao Geoghegan Hart about his experiences in his first Junior Roubaix.

Word is that the bad weather has packed in the mud between the cobbles, making it slightly less bumpy. Thats your bit of good news for today :)

Not ridden as many sectors as I have in the past, but the ones I have ridden seem just as bad to me. Biggest problem on Saturday could be the wind. It's forecast as NE, it can be really tough to hold any kind of speed into a headwind. That's the bit of bad news for today. :(

Not to worry though, just find a big Belgian to ride behind all the way to Roubaix! :D

    Cancellara looking quite happy.

Van Summeren & another Garmin rider (?) letting some air out. Tubs were "rock hard".

Yup, I'm heading over with some friends first thing on Sat morning. Only doing the 70k route though as we won't arrive in time for anything longer.

A video of Cancellara's crash. Doesn't look too bad:

  • Doesn't look like Hornaing à Wandignies-Hamage (as reported on Cyclingnews) to me, more like the start of Warlaing à Brillon.

Still, anyone want to bet against him?

    Is that the Belgian News?

They do take their cycling seriously, don't they.

He clearly has no idea how to ride on cobbles.

The 2-3 weeks from dwars door Vlaanderen to Roubaix are pretty sacred.

In that period riders training or not is news. How many km, where, how they're feeling etc.

What time does the race start? Just for an idea of when they will be going through where.
    Thanks

I wouldn't bet on Fabian - he's put on 5 stone since Flanders...

Nah, he's wearing an American Football style padded suit underneath his rain cape.

  • My ideal scenario (from a "what's funniest?" point of view) is Cancellara getting marked to fupp and then moaning and waving his hands around that people won't let him win a la 2011.

Doesn't look too bad, but does show just how tricky it can be to ride on the cobbles. I've been thinking this as being a bit of a foregone conclusion for chinny, but P-R is one of those races where really anything can happen!

It's a question of how far out he goes from. That's about it.
  • It's a question of how far out he goes from. That's about it.

Didn't we all say that in 2011 too? P-R is a lottery, all it takes is a puncture, someone crashing in front of him or 3 or 4 of his rivals determined that he doesn't win.

That said my £10 free bet went on him to win. Phinney e/w at 11/1 was my punt with my own money.

As we saw the other day, bad luck aside, when he's in this form and chooses his moment well (as his imitator says in the vid RR posted on RVV spoiler thread) who can pull him back after 220km? I know some people find it boring, but I'm hoping for another crushing Cancellara victory for people to cheer now there's a bit more doubt about the identity of clasicomano Luigi...

I put a few quid on Canc to win, and then a couple of quid each on Turgot (33/1) and Stannard (16/1) e/w
