Let me know when you find the magic answer to this one lovewales...

I'm not having any luck with the internet dating lark, funnily enough also met a chap who was shorter than me (i'm 5ft 4  ) and another who spent most of the date explaining how Immarsat worked. Brilliant. Keep getting hundreds of 'winks' from inappropriate sorts along with scary emails, and one chap who asked if it was actually me in the MTBing photos in my profile. Who the flipping heck does he think is in them??!!

Oh, and lots of men who claim to be into mountain biking but what they really mean is that they own something that looks like a mountain bike that they once used to ride to the pub. This is not my idea of mountain biking.....

    *sigh*

Can't you use Strava to stalk people? This might help with the whole mountain biker thing. More so than coming on here anyway.

I presume Gaz has probably stalked someone using Strava.

I think the cycle club thing is generally a good idea, but the fact is that by the time you get into your 30's most peope are attached... My friends think it's weird how I don't just meet peeps out biking - I do meet lots of lovely people and i'll chat to anyone, but it's all normal bike/ trail related conversations rather than finding out whether their wife is waiting for them in the cafe

Ask? Nothing bad will happen, the worst case would be that they are already attached but at least you'll know. If they aren't then you can do something about it

You say that, but then if someone started asking me about my love life whilst I was out riding I'd immediately be suspicious. As I am wherever it happens.

    Not that it ever happens!

Yes, I would rather avoid the desperate basket-case look

I joked to a (male) friend that on my next trail centre adventure I should stick a notice to my camelbak saying 'nice MTBing man wanted' and my mobile number - I laughed, he thought it was a good idea. Needless to say I am not doing that....

Ok so first off....You guys may rip the pi$$ sometimes but despite the façade you do actually give sensible advice on occasion and you have helped me out.

Secondly, internet dating is a pain. But it is a good way to meet people that you would not usually come across in normal every day life.

However, I would say I have to spend a couple of evenings with chocolate and a bottle of wine or rum searching through pages and pages of idiots to send about 20-30 messages to get enough replies from/find someone I actually want to meet in real life.

The ones I meet, about 50% are plain weird or uber mingers that look nothing like their pictures and I never want to see again, the other 50% I do get on with and want to keep in my life in some way. Now, I am rather picky with the internet folk and have only met up with about 6 or 7 guys, of which 3 are now good friends. I have dated 1 for a few months (we are still friends and he is counted in the friend category) and a second, whom I am currently seeing and he is fantastic and hot as! :)

Other good ways to meet menz I have found: snowboarding and climbing if you do any of those?

    Don't give up!

I didn't mean ask anyone and everyone :P I was thinking of people you knew/rode regularly with, I didn't realise you meant on random outings to trail centers etc.

Internet dating is set up for those exact people you mention, it appeals to those with lower confidence etc because there's a level of anonymity. I bet for every sane person there are 100 nutters/creeps/oddballs on them :P
I'd like to think of myself as sane and a nutter at the same time thanks.

I don't get on with internet dating, I think most people think I'm weird. Which is a good start in my book, but clearly not in the eyes of womenz. It's funny though.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I can't normally get close enough to come accross people.

Unfortunately not everyone sees stalky and rapey as desirable traits. Harsh I know.
