5'11" - 56cm Spesh Tarmac, but feel that a 54cm would be a better fit.

    6'2" with 34" inside leg.

    58cm Trek 1.9
    61cm Enigma Esprit.

The Trek has a compact frame and the Enigma a classic frame, so that accounts for the 3cm difference.

  • 189cm (6'2") currently ride a 58cm Focus Cayo standard spec but fitted with a 120mm stem.

Been to my LBS today and have test ridden...
Cube Agree Di2 60cm - good fit, nice ride.
Spesh Roubaix (SRAM Red, SL3) 61cm (I think) - great spec, OK but felt a bit 'sit up and beg' and I just didn't feel the love.
Trek Madone 5.2 58cm - perfection with the OEM stem swapped out for 120mm stem. Deposit paid, pick it up on Tuesday.

I'm 5'11 & ride a 58 frame Felt, used to ride a 56 frame but after bike fitting when purchasing new bike went up to a 58.

Feel more comfortable on the 58 & gives me more power through the pedals
  • I'm 6'0 and my main bike has a seat tube measurement of 63cm. It's a 30 year old lugged steel frame. My other bike is a little smaller, though I'm not sure by how much as I have never measured. I should.

I plan to get myself at least one made-to-measure steel bike before I breathe my last, however; I'll be interested to see how my 'ideal' frame measures up...

i am not clear whether these replies refer to the frame size as actual seat tube or seat tube measured centre to top or virtual seat tube centre to top if the top tube was horizontal . there is a lot of difference.
Also some bike frames are designed with a short head tube for racing /tt and others with a tall head tube for day rides or touring with a relatively head up position.
I am 6ft 2inch plus with 34inch inside leg trousers to rest on the shoes, but often wear 33inch. I have a 62cm flat top tube peugeot py10 from 1979 which was fine up to 100 miles , but when I started long audaxes I needed a shorter stem. The large frame made it easy to get the bars up to the level of the saddle or lower, which was the fashion of old prof racers.
A recent purchase of a raleigh clubman 56cm compact frame will need similar treatment .previously the reach was fine as supplied on a 58cm giant scr2 but that had a lot of seat tube showing (and the frame broke as a result although I never went above the mark) and the design had a taller head tube than the tcr range. As a youngster doing short rides flat out I used 23.5 inch (60cm) frames.
So you need to decide what you want to do with the bike . how head-down or head-up and where you want your hands. The best way to come to a decision is to start with a cheap old racer of roughly the right size and an adaptable stem ; ride it a lot adjusting the fit often until it feels good, or if there is something about the frame that is insurmountable then you will know what it is.. Measure it thoroughly then go shopping.

The question is too vague as all manufacturers size things differently and each persons proportions are different.

    5' 10 (179 cm)

size M/L Giant TCR (53.5 cm compact frame, 57 cm ETT)
56 cm carrera virtuoso (56 cm ETT)
size L Giant XTC (21 inch, cant remember the ETT)

For me the effective top tube (ETT) measurement is the most important thing as a couple of cm in the seat tube can be compensated for. Next most important measurement was is toe clearance as my clown feet will brush the front wheel on smaller frames.

I usually find that a longer reach fits me best so I tend to go up rather then down a size. At my height I am on the medium/large cusp for most manufacturers.

    Merlin single malt fixie (Commuter/winter/training)

  • 5ft 6ins, 29.5 ins inside leg. Ride a Storck Scentron G2, pro fitted for a 51ins frame. Stem is 120mm though to accommodate my 'long upper body' (think they were trying to tell me I had short arse legs!)

    6'-1" / 186 cm height,
32" inseam measured to the floor from the crotch,
    Ride a 56 cm Cannondale CAAD 10.
I have short legs and a long torso, I have ridden some bicycles with 54 and 52 cm frames, also. Depends on the overall frame's geometry as to which size I'll purchase.
Lets just got for a ride, the heck with all this stuff...

    I'm 6'5" (196cm) and ride a 58cm Felt Z75 (that's horizontal top tube length).
I'm all legs and I'm not flexible.
  • I guess I beat everyone so far; 6ft 6 & 1/2 inches (200.5 cm 98cm inseam, well proportioned). I had a Giant OCR2 XL frame but found it didn't have enough reach. Since this August I have a Focus Cayo XL frame. The seat fits well, but I can't get enough height or reach on the handlebar, lacking about 4 cms for the "ideal fit" according to the pros.
