    Yes and Yes (almost).

I think in the real world you will find that in the majority only video editors, designers and coders really "need" the mac, for most its a fashion accessory.
You're forgetting photographers - serious ones that is, those of us who earn our livings at it.

Sorry, I meant that including in the video editing

  • What might be closer to the truth is that to write effective, accurate code, not full of bugs and able to pass the quality checks in an OSX compiler is much more difficult so the cr*p kiddies out there cannot do it ;)
I think it's safe to say you haven't exactly worn the print off your '' keys.

It may not be new news but its a huge jump from standard drive.
Yes, I have one in my Samsung laptop. This notion that only Apple uses decent components, or that you can only get a box with decent components by spending more than an Apple costs is the biggest load of old tosh out.

As is most of this thread now.

I felt the same way until I used a mac.
You simply can not get a lower priced pc that competes in high end work like a mac.
It's not just hard drive, it's logic board, memory, build etc etc etc.

......but if you spend the same amount of money on a pc that you would on a Mac then you will. :)

No matter how much you spend on a PC, its still based around Windows and has never been designed as a single working unit and will always have mismatches and problems due to the variability of its components ;)

No matter how much you polish a turd, its still a turd ;)

and that brings us nicely back to the operating system.................

Incidently I disagree with that. I remeber trying to get Unreal (1999) to run on a Mac. Despite the fact it met all the spec and had upgraded RAM it wouldn't run. Windows - no probs.

I think there will always be a win vs osx issue.
Its not something we are going to solve here me thinks.

Somehow I doubt the veracity of your statement ;)

1999 was about two or three years before OSX was even released and there is no way on earth that an OS9 or earlier would have ever worked properly - apart from the completely incompatible CPU of course ......

There are a whole host of games which wouldn't run properly on Windows in those days even though they were written for Windows.

Entirely true, if only because it really does come down to personal preference in the end.

As one who uses both professionally (coder), I will never understand why passions get quite so aroused over the issue. In the end, the differences in utility are, at most, minimal for the non-specialist user, and whilst there are plenty that would fall into the realms of personal preference, personal preference is never a valid basis for "better", merely "better for me".
