DOes anyone have a list of bike 'brands' and where there products are actually made, assembled, painted.

People say they prefer itaalian bikes over cubes for example as they like the italian heritage, etc but in most cases the bikes are all made in the far east as far as i can tell bar maybe the high end stuff. so does anyone have somehting of a definitive list of the following or any others you care to think off. (i have obviosly left out cube and merdia as they are far east brands, as far as i am aware, and giant and spech also as i think they are all made in the far east?)

Bianchi
Colnago
Basso
Trek
Cinelli
De rosa
Look
Time
Felt
Canyon
Focus
Storck
Ridley
Cervelo
C'dale
Orbea
BH

Cube are German. No idea who makes their bikes though.

I don't think its as easy as that, different models are made in different plants. Take colnago, some bikes are/were made by Giant i Taiwan, whilst some are still made in italy.

Same with Trek. Their top end frames are made in Wisconsin whereas the rest are made in the far east somewhere.

There is somewhere on the net a fairly old (maybe 5 years old) list of origins of bike frames by brand. It's a good start.

  • Merida and Allianti probably make over 95% of all carbon frames.

It would be easier to list which frames aren't made of the far east.
  • whoops i got cube and giant the wrong way round in my op...also realised i am dyslexic with all the spelling errors.

i did search for that list on the net but with no luck. i also relaise it s complicated. maybe a simpler question would be which 'brands are not made in the far east whatsoever, regardless of high/low end models.

im also interetsed to know where my look 566 is made, i assume far east.

what baffles me, is if people dont like a thread, or think its been over done, dont bother wasting your time commenting on it. its not difficult is it?!

Why? It's a perfectly reasonable and interesting question and not so easy to find a current answer.

I believe so. The 566 came in around the time I bought my Look 585. The 566 clearly hit a slightly cheaper price bracket and the shop (Epic) told me they were made in the Far East. Pretty much all of the rest of the Look range is made in their wholly owned factory in Tunisia. I think they do still make frames in their French factory but mostly these are special runs.

    just about none then.

and even some of the "made in USA" actually start looking like a frame in the far east.

No - it's more complicated than that; your link is about where companies are owned - not where their products are made. This is what I was referring to - it's four years old so more will have been outsourced by now. Not very complete either being focussed on brands available in the States.

"The Cannondale Bicycle Corporation, is an American division of Canadian conglomerate Dorel Industries that supplies bicycles. It is headquartered in Bethel, Connecticut with manufacturing and assembly facilities in China and Taichung, Taiwan."

    Hope this helps.

    Nice bikes.

If you have a Giant, Scott, Trek or a Colnago it was probably made here:

You missed off BMC, who hand-make their own frames in Switzerland. Neat bikes.

Course I'm only saying that cos I've got one. Everyone else can think they're tat. :)

Think that's right. Mine proudly sports a "Made in Spain" decal (which is by no means a byword for quality!!)

Think Canyon frames are made in Germany still as when I passed the factory a few months back it is massive. Much bigger than just an assembly point and storage. Could be wrong though.

My carbon Cinelli has a 'Made in Taiwan' sticker on the bottom - at least they are honest

    Who makes whats where?

Who cares? GET OVER IT. The right companies still control how frames are made even if they are constructed in the east

I do. I quite like the fact that some companies provide employment in their own countries rather than doing everything in the far east.

The frames are made in the Far East then final painting/finishing is done in Spain. I was disappointed but not surprised when I found out.

My Cervelo was hand made by French speaking Canadians in a secret Winnipeg bunker.

That's a bit cheeky. Reminds me of a brand that used to have 'hand built in Britain' stickers on them, but they forgot to add that a box of bits were sent from the far east, and then put together here!

But yeah, Orbea are made in China!

I do too. I love the fact that my mountain bikes is designed and manufactured in the UK.

Why do you care that other people care is the question? If you don't care....fine....move on and add something constructive to another thread.

That is WHY it said hand built in Britain, other wise it would have said hand made in Britain. Nothing wrong with their statement merely your understanding

My Cannondale is handmade in USA and my Basso is Hand Made in Italy. 8)
