Perhaps try GCv3 which in now in the final stages of testing before release so very stable. You can grab a copy here:

    http://goldencheetah.stand2surf.net

so long as you have a 64bit operating system and running 10.7+.

Make sure you do the backup first if you do go that route.

It would no doubt be useful for the devs if this bug is real, as it seems to be, to get that sorted before any release.

You can find the GC discussion group here:

    https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgr ... etah-users

Incidentally in there is a test build for 32bit and v10.6+ and apparently it works with 64bit as well if you are on 10.6x.

    Bugs can be reported here:

Version 3 just crashes on startup every time.

Most recently - about a day ago.

Open V3 - says "refreshing ride statistics" and BOOM. It unexpectedly quits.

    OSX 10.8.3

Backup your athlete folder if you haven't already.

In the athlete folder (whilst GC is closed) delete metricDBv3 file and the whole index folder and see if that makes any difference.

Once again make sure you do that backup first so that you have something to go back to if that doesn't work.

Could be a dodgy file but then again could be anything. Definitely take it over the GC discussion group and I'm sure Mark will be happy to work with you to identify the issue and help resolve it and if it is files that they are handled a little more gracefully than a crash.

    It's not "a" file.

It doesn't crash when importing a file. It crashes shortly after starting up the program. It starts to import all the old files and doesn't get far into the process before crashing (the program).

Your athlete folder is upgraded when you move to v3 and that involves rescanning all your files so whilst the files may have worked in v2.1 without issue something in v3 may not like one of your files and this could cause GC to crash. You can see this process happening as you will get a dialog box across the middle of the screen and you will see your files running across it as it scans them during startup. If it crashes on the same file each time then the simple thing to do is move it out of athlete folder and restart to see if that resolves the issue. Of course if it crashes on random files and removing metricDBv3 and the index didn't resolve or it never gets to the point where it starts scan your files then I can't really suggest anything else other than to take it to the GC forum. They are very friendly :D

    Hi,

    What version are you using?
We have RC1 and RC2 and recently an RC2 32bit?
Can you post the first 50 lines or so of the crash report and the metric.log file from the athlete directory or better still send it to me I'm liversedge gmail com

    Cheers,
    Mark

    RC2 32 bit.

I just went into my athlete folder and deleted most of the old data files (just leaving the ones for the last week.)

As it starts to import them it still crashes the same way. No matter how many of few of them they are - it crashes the program so it's not just one particular file crashing it.

TO be honest, this is not worth the hassle. V2 will do.

Sorry if this sounds callous-- I'm not following this up for you I'm following this up for all users who may experience the same problem!
Can you at least share the error log and metric log?

    Thanks
