As much as i want to take any side that's against you, he cut a solid white line. Prrrrrrk.
  • well he did cut the white line but the most suprising thing for me is the manner of the driver jesus if the rest of the world was like it cycling woudl be a lot easier. I have had more death threats and weapons pulled on me more times than i can remember. Nice to see an incident resolved diplomaticly for once. I think both road users have to share the same space so for me its a 50-50 thing and if i was on the bike I would have slowed to let him through. 6.9kilo of carbon against against 1.5 tonne audi? I think i know who would come off worse.
  • Driver was a prick, cyclist backed down far too easy.

Also, driver looked a bit like Wiggo.

I can see the Wiggo resemblance, but I think to call the driver a pr12k is a bit harsh, I think he made a error and eventually realised it, as said above its good that he didn't jump out threatening to kill anyone, he was clearly in the wrong and whilst in the car let his temper get the better of him (something that a lot of people do whilst driving) once the cyclist explained to him in a reasonable manner why he did bang on the car the driver was quick to back down.

I also suspect the cyclist might have been a big fella, wiggo definitely wasn't and I'm sure this helped the situation from escalating.

I've banged on several nearside car/van panels or windows and yelled over the years as drivers were too close (dangerously close, like force me off or up the pavement close). Most move out and keep going. I've had one guy angrily challenge me at traffic lights by downing his nearside window as I pulled up next to him. I told him politely he was was in a 1.5 ton cocoon surrounded by airbags and I was on a 10 kilo bike with a styrofoam helmet and yes I will bang on his bloody window if he was close enough for me to touch it without reaching out. Guy just drove off. You cant really answer that.

The Audi driver was in the wrong and he acted daft.

I'd like to see the 2 or 3 mins before that issue. I think the cyclists road positioning is hard to explain.

There was an alternative defensive strategy to moving out - slowing down.

Audi drivers do tend to be in the wrong :) .

I don't think the driver realised he'd made an error at all. I think he got out of the car as if he was going to do something and then probably saw the camera so thought better of it. Not sure about the Wiggins resemblance, but the driver looked a bit stoned to me, or maybe he's just a moron who has that permanent stoned look. Either way it was a shi* bit of driving.

  • im suprised nobody mentioned how he forced the cyclist to stop by cutting him up while sitting on his horn. he spotted the camera immediatly otherwise he would have kicked him off his bike.

Absolutely! That was far worse than his initial manuevre, it was incredibly stupid, aggressive and dangerous, no way I could have stayed as calm as that if it'd happened to me.

As for the original incident the driver was 100% at fault, I see things like this all the bloody time - instead of simply slowing down and then overtaking or switching lanes a few seconds later cars will try to squeeze through spaces that are not there and expect you to get out the way. God forbid they have to slow down or sit behind you even briefly
  • The car tried to pull into the bus lane which I'm pretty sure is illegal

You wouldn't happen to drive an Audi would you?

My opinion is based on the fact that almost every time I overtake an Audi the driver puts his foot down to try to stop me from overtaking - something drivers of pretty much every other make of car do not do. Since my car is much quicker than most Audis it never works but it's not a clever thing to do and has heavily coloured my view of Audi drivers.

do you realise the audi's arent actually accelerating and really you just think you beat every audi you see in your nova?

Yes I do, and after a second ridiculous statement I'll leave you with it before you suggest a race to settle the issue.

I can see your head growing from here.

its obvious BS, as anyone who drives a performance car is an entusiast, thus watches motorsport of sometime and would watch top gear.

Exactly. He acted like a prick. I would have not been as calm as the rider in that position.

Nope. Truly liking Motor racing and watching Top Gear are mutually exclusive.
  • Yeah, I like motor racing. I fucking hate Jeremy Clarkson and that dwarf of his. James May is ok.

Looking at the video again, what we have is a very badly designed road layout. Non bus lane users have almost no time to move over before their lane turns right. It stands to reason that they will push hard to move over quickly.

I think also the bus lane end sign is just before the end of bus lane, so the Audi driver is about on the mark for moving over, since its the sign not the lines that defines the boundary.

I didn't watch the video with sound, but yes the attempt to stop the cyclist was clearly aggressive. I'm surprised the cyclist didn't go down the side of his car as a result.
