A quick Google reveals it to be normal on these old decks so took it to bits to find a tiny belt well past its best, ended up in town looking for anything that might work, but with no joy. Walking back to the car past a big pet shop juggling whether it was worth a look what with them just closing, and the youth pushing trolleys back in saw my puzzled face and asked if he could help. 10 seconds later he's in a box in a corner fishing out exactly what I need, a square section belt just the right size. Turns out they come into the shop on something or other then are normally binned but they keep a handful just in case. I could have hugged him, but restrained myself.
Now back at home after a successful fit and rebuild with a working MD deck, working through some discs including one treasure trove of the kids singing when they were little, with OH & me in there too. In stereo!!!! And some John Peel, Andy Kershaw and other stuff from 15 years ago.
Still working fine. Found a MD labelled Jimmy Young's Last Show R2. Same as Jeremy Vine's current take on it, but instead of every item being a contrived A v B argument followed by a two clueless nutters phoning in to the Speak Your Brain space, it's engaging discussion between JY and the relevant guest for each topic. Then a piece of music that doesn't miraculously chime with the topic and which JV pretends is a random selection by the computer, but everyone knows it isn't - viz yesterday's interview with the two ladies in the news with their Naked Podcast (they strip naked and interview a guest who's also invited to be naked to be more open and honest, and did the interview on R2 naked). What did the computer come up with? Bachman Turner Overdrive, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet. Hold me up...0 -

1. Off to the Peak District tomorrow, for a weekend of cycling
2. Got a new 300mm lens for my DSLR
3. It's a clear night so I am going to set the tripod up and photograph the moon
Simple pleasures, but in this current low spot I'll take everything that this way comes.Ben

Can't you use software to superimpose a series of stills taken as the moon crosses the FoV, rather than use a long exposure. A friend did this with Saturn and got a fantastic image0 -

Ducks, maniacal ducks at that. Not sure what kind they are but big ducks that seem to like walking around a lot. There's a dead tree that I pass as I ride in, only the trunk left and it's at least 20' tall, and a couple of these ducks tend to perch on the top of it quacking loudly. Today they were up there quacking away and two more were flying around the base quacking back at them.
I have no idea if it was a mating ritual, a fight or just a game of king of the castle but it made me smile.0
