Not trivial for me but for everyone else; promoted 2nd year in a row and my little business (or practice or franchise or whatever you lot want to call it), I started from nothing in January has, in 2022 anyway, been successful. Smashed all my targets and has actually made material money.

Really proud of myself because a) I've been working to this moment my entire career b) I really put my neck on the line to start this from nothing - it was my idea and I did have to convince some sceptics before doing it and c) it's just me on my own so the success has actually been down to me.

Your conversion to the Tory side of The Force is progressing well, Young Jedi :)
Just need him to climb a bit higher and become a true capitalist by getting equity and he will develop an irresistible urge to wear a blue rosette.
Also the realisation of just how much you have to shell out to HMRC when at those exalted levels of earnings will surely start to sway him.
The tipping point will be when he finds out that the surcharge between £100-125k is not automatically deducted and he gets a threatening letter for missing a few years.

I will keep a place warm for him in the pension thread
Little offended you think I've not either experienced that or worked it out yet.
Probably because you don't seem to have adjusted your voting preferences yet.
Lol. Which *is* the party of low taxation?
Relatively speaking I think it's still the status quo, though it as usual the opposition parties are being coy about their policies.

I thought Rick would want to join the party that is popular with winners now that he seems to be joining the club.
You know as well as I do that it's most popular with old farts, which excludes me.😌
Give it time...everyone assumes the Tories are doomed because of the strength of support in the older age groups who will die off - conveniently forgetting that there is a ready supply of people getting older to replace them

    Your time will come ;)

Many of my friends, also of my age group which is a little over RJS, refuse to vote Tory now. The last few years seem to have proved they're the party of incompetence. If anyone wants to say it's earnings related one of them earns more in a day than I do in a month, so it's not that simple.

I know this should really be in the Tories' thread, but I've no idea what they stand for any more, other than incompetence, corruption (see all the PPE contracts for starters), and to home Jacob Rees Mogg.

The problem is that Brexit showed that a small group of diehards can make an 80 seat majority irrelevant if they are prepared to die in their ditch

Remarkable anyone would think the last 11 years of Tories did anything other than hinder my real net pay.

Anyway, back to things that cheer me up... I've made it to the French place for my first Christmas here, and will be here for the 10th anniversary of shaking hands on the purchase.

Your main concern is your after tax pay? Spoken like a true Tory. Your transformation is nearly complete, Young Jedi.

    This cheers me up :)

    FTFY

I wonder how quickly his 40's throwback persona would suddenly change if there was a cable tie wrapped round his bollox and 2 jump leads on each ear connected to a 24v truck battery.
As long as the ERG are part of the Tory's, i'll never, ever vote for them.
Thatcher resigned and that was partly down to inner Tory disagreement over Europe. She had no end of problems with her views and antagonism towards the EEC (as it was then and an idea and concept she supported in opposition?!*). She made a huge mistake when opposing German re-unification. Even claiming that they would be more inclined to move away from NATO and ally themselves with Russia!
Major fell foul of the 'Maastricht b$stards'.
Cameron conceded and gave into a referendum (Europe again) and now we're struggling - outside of the EU.
When are the mainstream Tory's going to realise that the inner anti-EU w@nkers in their midst have caused years of problems for their own party, culminating in securing the exit from the EU, thereby condemning us to years of uncertainty and compounding current issues?

*Shifting stance to manipulate public opinion and shift blame. Clever, manipulative b1tch intent on playing political games just to maintain power; contrary to her work ethic which was 'for the good of the country'. Yeah right.
Lying, complicit, bitter closets who honed their skills at Eton.

    Sorry, wrong thread.

    You alright, Pinno?

BTW, if that's accurate she was right. Schroeder and the like have their heads firmly wedged between Russian cheeks.

Fine thanks. It's good to get things off your chest.
She was very wrong about German re-unification though.

That I got here before the traditional SNCF Christmas strike.

I might be posting in the 'things that annoy me' thread in ten days' time, depending on whether I can get home...

That's my perfect misanthropic Christmas Day sorted. Weather looks perfect for a walk into the mountains in shorts. I've bought chicken legs, chipolatas, 'jambon cru' (for French-style cochons-in-blankets), a couple of part-cooked baguettes, I'll make some sage & onion stuffing with sage from the garden, and I brought over some home-made Christmas cake.

Then I just need to cook the meat in the morning, and I can have lunch in the sun at 1000m looking back down on my house. And I suspect I won't meet a single person on the walk.

I'm being all sociable the next day with good friends, as I'm not a totally miserable bar steward. Well, not all the time, at least.

I'm hoping next Christmas that two friends, with no kids, and now no parents, will be able to come over, so I might as well get a solo Christmas in this year.

South West Water have announced Colliford Reservoir has reached the 30% full mark and giving us £30 back on the next bill :)

It's still far too low for the time of year, and that'll be problematic next summer but it's a start at least

The way the weather is going it'll be full soon enough...

    I not a fan everyone's Christmas favourite - Bailey's Irish cream.
A well matured Christmas Pudding? - It's okay, but no big deal.
Put them together with a dollop of heavy cream and it's a whole different ball game.
    You can thank me later.
    Merry Christmas all.

Reading a missive from the mairie that the new 4G mast will be installed in the village mid-2023. Good that I shouldn't need to go to the expense of a fibre connection, but just worried that my 5G vaccine chip won't link up to it.

Should have got a Ukrainian farmer to help, they’d have been out in no time (but would have lost the APC).
