Speaking of which, we just took delivery of 760 litres of kerosene today which will hopefully see us through Christmas on the heating front. We did ask if we could get hooked up to the gas supply but apparently it will cost 35 grand...

Does it cost a lot more than being on gas or is it more the hassle of getting it delivered?

I like the way the interviewee doesn't try to rebut the suggestion that you can "grow concrete", and just lets the silence do the work.

Local hilly loop - 22.43 miles running my tyres @ 65psi.
22.18* running the same loop @ 70psi. If the wheel is spinning in the air because you bounce a little bit more on the rough patches, are those figures therefore skewed due to a secondary effect of running tyres at a higher pressure?

    *Consistently, within +/- 0.03 of a mile.
    I'll record it in summer.

Not sure until I see how quickly we get through it - apparently is has always been pricier than gas, but with the recent hikes in gas prices there may not be much difference now. For now, the main thing is that the house is nice and warm.

Surely at a higher pressure your wheels have a wider diameter, so you would expect fewer rotations for the same distance.

Regardless, it's still a lot of money. And issues with getting pipes across other peoples property etc. Might be worth it if the whole close decided they wanted it but I guess we'll have to find out. Only been there for a week.

I'd have thought this is more to the point. Presumably a heat pump needs a completely different type of heating system rather than radiators on the wall, or do they. I must confess it's not something I'd ever given thought to before.

No radiators are fine. You just need slightly larger ones as they run at a lower temperature from a heat pump.

This will be part of a medium term plan I think. Got plenty we want to do in the meantime!

    Yes, can't work it out,
It's all these bloody Northerly's. If I want a TWH, then i'm forced to go north.

Fewer rotations = a mileometer measuring a shorter distance, so makes sense.

To be fair, we were on average about 20 years younger than the average age of the audience...

I have been to 2 concerts recently Big Country and The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain supported by the New Mills Choir. The average at BC was late 50’s or early 60’s, at UO of GB it was 70’s or early 80’s.
Guess which audience looked in better shape. :D

I get called 'young man' by most of the members of my Male Voice Choir and I'm pushing 50. For a while we did have about 10 members under 30 but a lot of them have moved on, gone to Uni etc. so we now probably only have 4 or 5 regulars younger than me.

First live gig I've played in since March 2020, and the first with this band since my post-concussion syndrome tumble in October 2018. It's been quite a journey, one way and another. Lovely to play in a trumpet section that's been the same four people since 2005.

    Erm... that's more than 4.

Kreckt. Actually using the 1934 trumpet that's in my avatar... that's also a thing that cheers me up... using an instrument that was made right at the start of the swing era.
