Wait till she gets the stabilizers off.

Had a young fit chap on a carbon road bike overtake me on the way to work on my mountain bike. We were both riding into a strong head wind and I was about 3/4 of my journey in so I thought I'd tuck in behind him -- it was tough going but surprisingly I kept on his back wheel for the last few miles to work. It's amazing how much of a tow you get. I thanked the big fella for the tow when we got to the traffic lights in town.

    Didja pull?

No I got pulled. Not my type Rob I'm a strict vagetarian. Pulled a muscle maybe.

Diet and training success. Purely by reducing junk food and cycling more.
    86kgs to 79.5kgs. FTP from 250 to 300. w/kgs from 2.9 to 3.8. Bring on the Alps!
Cheers me up mightily, and very trivial to everyone else.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Not trivial at all. Well done, I know how much work it takes: I've managed a similar weight loss - actually 94 at the worst, down to 83 now, aiming for 78 - in the teeth of significant heart disease (serious blood pressure, LVH, probably caused by genetic HCM) and a thoroughly stuffed up hip causing a lot of grief and eventually resurfacing surgery.

So it's a matter of life and death for me, and in a way it is for everyone.

I really can't be bothered with FTP and all that jazz, don't have a PM and certainly don't go anywhere near a gym, but I rather suspect yours is higher than mine.
But I do know that a few years ago I couldn't run up a flight of stairs without stopping, lungs heaving, at the top, but now (in my mid 50s) I'm getting faster on the bike, and even running is starting to come back together two years after hip surgery - nowhere near the sub 1½ half-marathons I did in my 20s and 30s, but my 7 year old park run PB is gonna get smashed. One day. Maybe.

More power (and less weight) to you and to all of us.

Can recommend the the Alps, and don't use the excuse you are not superfit! It's a lovely part of the world to cycle and you can take it as slow as you like.

They are much nicer when not covered in nasty snow IMO.

I'm going on Saturday. That was the motivation but yes, planning on going slow as it worked for the Pyrenees.
Thunderstorms forecast for the week though.

My FTP may be decent but running? Crossing the road fast is an effort.

Also listening to Michael Vaughan on the radio today saying that if Smith bats in the third test, then Joe Root should immediately throw the ball to Archer and say “you’ve got six overs, get after him!”

holiday bike requires new internal 1 1/8 headset. simples.

    order, doesn't work. scratch head.

try all manner of spacers and shims and hitting and swearing. nothing. not a sausage.

take internal 1 1/8 headset off crit racer.

fits perfect, works perfect. no shims, spacers, hitting, etc. exactly as a headset change should be. 5 mins work.

out of interest, try non fitting new 1 1/8 in crit racer.

Have to admit, I enjoyed similar. We picked up a job my old company was kicked off for failing to find an acceptable solution that could get planning. We took it on, came up with a scheme using a solution the previous company had told the Client wouldn't work and got them their planning. Made even more enjoyable as the person running it at my old company was a particularly obnoxious s**t who bullied junior employees.

When I was a lad... this were all fields.
No, hang on. At school I played a lot of cricket. I captained the B team at 15 and then played for the A team the following 2 seasons, as well as playing for the local first 11.

When we first went into the local 8/8 league (8 a side, 8 overs), the coach took us all into the nets with some plastic simulation cricket balls. They were very bouncy. As we were all 14/15/16 and not fully grown, an average height ball could potentially be a bouncer.
We were told repeatedly to never take our eyes off the ball.

Whilst I realise that archer is quick and it's been a long time since there was a plethora of really pacey bowlers (Wasim Akram et al and given the rules restricting the number of bouncers per over), why did Smith:
    A. Take his eye off the ball and
    B. Knowing Archer's pace, not wear a full guard helmet?

probably not trivial and not sure if it cheers me up but couldn't think of anywhere else to post this - are there any threads on brexit anywhere? but.....

The UK has been "leaving" for almost 7% of the time it has been in the EU! I wonder what that percentage will get to?

It took about 4 years to get in IIRC - from '69 to '73. Wonder if we will exit faster than we entered?
