Sparrows. They are a benign bunch. They don't sing but I looked them up because 2 pairs are nesting in the box section of my garage roof and i'm revamping it so I wanted to know when they nest until, so as not to disturb them.
In the research, pronounced research, not ree search (that's for the other thread), I read that the collective term for Sparrows is 'colony'. I also suppose that this is not coincidence, there's some design in that.
    Back to the plot.
Apart from collectively chirping loudly and repetitively when the cat is around (often just rolling in the dust or lying in some shade), there is a regular cacophony in the hedge and it gets louder and louder and then suddenly it stops. There's always this racket at twilight but during the summer, they do this throughout the day.

The one that spent 4 or 5 days attacking his own reflection in my windows a few weeks ago wasn't benign. We ended up having to keep the curtains closed for a few days until he forgot about the threat.

Maybe he was thinking that the big ugly brute he could see had eyes for his Thelma.

I never said that they were clever. They make a hell of a racket over the cat when the cat is visibly resting/sleeping.

Avoided the urge to have a lie in and joined some friends for a run up Fan y Big in the Beacons. Perfect weather - blue skies but not too warm and a gentle breeze, stunning views and colour contrasts due to the light and very quiet compared to its neighboring peak of Pen y Fan that was thick with people who had 'climbed' it from Storey Arms. Too top it all a lovely long and not overly technical downhill run to finish and 10 good miles of training in the legs.

Seeing Piers Morgan's cricket "All Stars" (Chris Gayle, Michael Vaughan & Kevin Pietersen) beaten by our village XI yesterday whilst driking several pints of local brew.
I recon it'll be a little quieter this evening when my 12 year old plays his match on the same square :)

Seeing Morgan taking a full toss in the face or the plumbs from the fastest fast bowler would cheer me up.

I grew up near Llangynidr and my only ever multi-day stage race (Junior Tour of Wales) finished at the top of Llangynidr Mountain - I won the Lanterne Rouge!

Nelson's bike shop / frame builder was a regular haunt and one of my clubmates and his dad who also raced with us lived out there too.

Not seeing Piers Morgan at all would be more satisfactory!

Fair enough, but locally here he does a lot to help raise funds for charities and the cricket club. Not many places get to see or play against high profile sports start every year.
It possibly helps that he grew up here so his old friends knew him as a kid and subsequently don't stand for his "character" he plays in public

Yes but in Welsh a single F is pronounced as a V and a single Y is pronounced hard not soft like an English Y. Consequently it sounds nothing like the word you are eluding to.
