Not a fan of death death, kill 'em all, death death, whiplash, death death... f*cking shyte really.

I think you're confusing them with Slayer.

I'm pretty sure he's never listened to more than a few seconds of Metallica but just likes to rip into things that others have said they enjoy. Metallica's music is a bit thrashy but plenty of melodic guitar work to balance it and vocally Hetfield is probably the best in the genre, very clear. Just listen to Nothing Else Matters to see he and the band are capable of so much more than Pinno's description.

Nowt wrong with a bit of 'Payback' if that's what you need but clearly a different thing from Metallica.

Anyway, talking of them and things that cheer you up.

Releasing approx 30 million slug seeking and killing nematodes into my vege patches. Go on ya (very) wee beauties, get tore in tae thae barstewards.

Biological control mechanism. About a month later than planned due to production / breeding problems at the supplier. But fingers crossed that see a significant reduction in slug damage this year.

    And another cheer up.

Ripening strawberries on the new patch planted earlier this year. Beautiful fruit and fantastic taste.

Hang on, we were talking about Metallica were we? I can clear this up. They are shît. They're like the equivalent of the deep voiced man on film trailers, that's all, the same dramatic put on voice just over pretty undynamic 'music'. Yes, they've sold a lot of records in their time, but it certainly doesn't mean they're good in the slightest, I mean Tesco sell a lot of saver baked beans, and I think it is fair to say they are shît too.

There is nothing wrong with Tesco baked beans. 4 cans for £1! Cheers me up every time I buy them.

Have had a hedgehog family living in our garden, had to rescue one of the little ones from a hole once, the resulting squealing when it rejoined the family enlightened me to why they are called hogs. Still find deposits indicating hedgehog(s) still here.

They are welcome to as many slugs as they fancy. They won't help control the juveniles and soil resident types like the small black slug which make a right mess of root crops and potatoes.

Mixing 'I don't like them' with 'they are shite'. Classic.

Music is subjective, objectively they could be technically bad (which they aren't), or good but not to your taste.
  • Music definitely subjective. However, I pretty much can't think of any heavy metal music I like. I used to dislike both Country AND Western but strangely as I've got older whilst not a definite fan of the genre as a whole there are certainly some tracks I really like.

Other peoples taste eh, always poor....

They are crap though! :) They make me laugh :) I mean, listen to them. I do like stacks of rock music by the way. There are so many sub genres of guitar music and Metallica are what I described, just the musical equivalent of the deep voiced man on a film trailer. They need to grow up.

As for technically, I think I'd argue the point over Lars Ulrich, he's pretty poor. It doesn't much matter though, it's not like good drumming could save the music.

    Good point about Lars...

I get what you mean, though. I listen to their earlier thrashy stuff as it appeals to me a bit more. Listened to the Black album a lot once upon a time which is OK in moderation

A flat mate when I was at Uni used to delight us with Metallica at any hour of the day.
So I have heard plenty of it.
Melody? You have to be joking.

When I used to do the odd evening doing odd jobs at Vintage Strings, London Road, Cheltenham, the proprietor used to get dozens of Rock wannabe's coming in and saying 'can you play this and can you play that?'. Brian May fans - especially his rendition of God save the Queen and plenty of 'can you play Stairway to heaven?' etc etc.
'Play it to me and i'll see' was the usual response. The protagonists would disappear and come back with CD or whatever medium and the proprietor (a Django fanatic) would repeat it note for note to the amazement of the wannabe.
...and then he would pick up his Maccaferri guitar and play some Gypsy Jazz. 99% of the time the wannabe would be non plussed over the brilliance of the guitar playing and then attempt to get the owner of the shop to go back to twanging some whatever rock tune he/she wanted him to play.
Technically, most of it is not difficult at all. When you see past (I play classical guitar - not very well) the hammer rolls, electric vibrato, deliberate distortions, interspersed with over use of the Whammy bar, you'll realise that technically, it doesn't really stack up to a hill of Tesco value beans.

    Melody

    Melody

    Melody

    Melody

    Melody

    Heavy

More soul than a 1000 Metallica tunes, not guitar based but who cares?

    Each to their own though.

Went to my nephew's 8th birthday. His dad had got him a bike off ebay, a Specialized Hard Rock black and silver, same sort I got my son for his 7th birthday 14 years ago.

On looking closer I realized it had the same mudguards I put on my son's bike, the same reflective stickers on the frame and back of the saddle, the same store frame sticker from the store where I bought my son's bike (300 miles from where we all now live).

Yep, my nephew is the proud owner of a bike I bought 14 years ago, and it's still in good shape and he is as happy with it as my son was.
