hearing the crunch of a front spoiler on a Ferrari something or other, looked expensive whatever it was, as it grounded out hitting a speed bump because the idiot (either a footballer or a drug dealer Im guessing) driving it just didnt want to slow down enough to take it properly :)

crazy idiot then still pretty much drove straight at me, the last thing Id be doing if I owned a multi 6 figure cost car after Id just crunched the front would be get anywhere near a bicycle with all its sticky out pointy heavy metal bits, though for once I obliged to get out of the way

You should have looked down pointing at their bumper and laughing, even if it wasn't damaged it might have got them worried but then they would probably just use it as an excuse to buy a new one.

If I had a Ferarri I probably wouldn't care that much that a cyclist laughed at me even if I had just crunched it on a speedbump.

Wonder whether the point would have been made if it was any old 4 wheeled tinbox that scraped their spoiler on a speed bump?

the amount of clearance such a car has is very different though in that case, an old 4 wheeled tinbox car like that could probably tackle the same speed bump at twice the speed as the Ferrari, the point was the Ferrari tried it at the old 4 wheeled tinbox speed, and probably caused 10s of thousands of damage in the process & I dont care if they didnt care, it amused the hell out of me :D

not necessarily actually, Ive mentioned maybe not in this thread but Ive certainly commented on this forum somewhere before about how cars have hit the same sequence of speedbumps so fast and hard they look like they are doing some 80s action tv show car stunt jump, and their exhaust or towbar gouges a great lump out of the speed bump, just because people dont drive over them at the correct speed whatever car they drive.

but we are talking a vast degree of difference in speed, had I been heading towards an old tinbox travelling at a speed fast enough to have hit the same speed bump and caused themselves damage, it would most likely have ended up in the rant column instead, even if theyd ripped off their exhaust (which has happened) as Id be riding head on towards a car out of control heading towards me at 30-40mph.

mr ferraris rubbish attempt at driving at least gave me the opportunity to enjoy his misfortune, without fearing for my safety for a change.

Fair enough, and it is a worthy topic for this thread.

It cheers me up accelerating and braking between speed humps to make up the time - is this what's called dysfunctional behaviour? :)

How does its speed affect the clearance between spoiler and speed cushion?

If you hit the bumps too fast it compresses the suspension more. Or if you're going really fast, over speed bumps of a certain shape, you get a bit of lift off over the bump and come down slightly nose first. Not really a good idea either way, much better to accelerate and brake between the bumps.

Anyhow - another thing that cheers me up is going for a blast in the car just for the hell of it, as done just now. Very satisfying :)

I love ripping down a street full of speed bumps on the back wheel of my motorbike -knocking the door mirrors off all the cars as I go -- scares the fk out of old ladies on bicycles.

Left a back door open yesterday and a pair of swallow came in and flew around as if looking for nesting place. We have lofty ceilings and it was amazing to watch their agile aerobatics before they found a window I'd opened and whizzed casually back out.

It must be fun being a swallow or a swift.

Such an endearing little bird. 6000 miles to S Africa!

I am building a double garage with a room on top. Proper man cave with an outlook on the garden to keep an eye on Tricky and Shorty. I will have extended eaves so that it creates nesting sites for House Martins and Swallows.

      No idea..

But I have had to bail out relatives who get into more debt than they can handle and can understand why the bank might have a go! We acted as executor for one who died thousands of pounds in store card debt because they let her just spend, spend, spend.

Another relative has acted as guarantor for a 'friend' who can't control their life-style. They needed a guarantor because their credit rating was so crap that's the only way they could get into more debt. The debt they needed was simply to pay off their previous debt. There's no way on earth my relative will be able to pick up the debt burden when they come knocking on the door.

That's just for starters. Yes the banks have encouraged debts left, right and centre. Perhaps we should appreciate it when they reverse the trend?

Not sure that this fits the 'cheer you up' scenario but hey.

Not much if any sympathy for those who for whatever reason decide to spend what they don't have just because they can and then bleat about someone else made them do it, 'snot fair, I want com-pen-say-shun. I have never ever not paid off my credit cards in full every month. I do not spend what I don't have. But then I'm not a Leave voter either.
