    Just had some thoughts.
How are they going to report you for not having plates if you don't have plates to get the details from? 🤔
Has number plates stopped drivers from breaking laws? 🤔
All cars are insured, right? 🤔

The story is stupid at all levels.

It's more that a go-to rally point for the party is hating on a particular type of transport (and let's face it, group or identity - we all know they're not just referring to people on bikes)

Everyone is giving this story more attention than it deserves.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I'd like to think that a demented policy like this would be thrown out by the Lords or the cabinet members of the treasury or dept of health.

But the Lords periodically come up with faux outrage of their own volition on things like this and the cabinet is populated with other morons.

Best hope is vote Labour and keep this shambles out of power entirely. I don't care what anyone thinks of Labour, we are in the territory where it literally can't be any worse.

They have number plates in Switzerland and I distinctly remember my host in Bern saying that I couldn't borrow his bike because the number plate license had elapsed.
They really are law abiding to the point of Nausea.

I was stuffing some shoes with a Daily Heil and got sucked in. So I read a few articles. It really is a pile of shyte. Unfortunately, the audience is too stupid to see through it.

Maybe we should have pedestrian number plates too? Dangerous fools.

I have always maintained that we should all have bar codes tattooed to our foreheads.
...and a microchip in the neck.
...and a battery pack so that we get a bzzz when we're naughty.

Trump would never be POTUS. Johnson would never be PM. People would never vote for Brexit.

Even if this doesn't ever become law (it will), being on the front page of the DM breeds yet more hatred towards cyclists

This strip thin stripe thick stripe thin stripe thick stripe...

    What's not to like?
Imagine it linked to your bank account and you can scan it at the automated checkout at Tesco's, get beeped at the airport, beeped when voting, beeped after being squished by a DM reading HGV driver at the city morgue.
When it's all automated, no need to fill out your Self assessment. Much unemployment at HMRC.

But would you still need a number plate attached to your bike?

Also, how about electric mobility vehicles? Some of them are akin to mini cars.

    Good point.
How will we know that cyclists won't start using mobility scooters to bypass the cycle registration?

No, just an enlarged bar code.

Power lines brought down by a storm. Difficult to run electric trains without electricity.

They could have a carriage with a large diesel generator on it to allow a train to still run, albeit more slowly.

No, I mean the last 6 times I’ve tried to get a train.

So 3 commuting days, each way.

Today home the alternative train I took because the other line was jammed was 40 mins late - so I got home 1:05 later than scheduled.

This morning my usual train was delayed indefinitely so I took the other line which was also 10 minutes delayed so I got to work 40 mins later than I should have.

    Etc etc

How far away are you from work? Is an electric bike worth considering to avoid the $h1tty service.

They could have holes in the floor so that the passengers can get there Flintstone style.

Not doable about 70 odd miles.

It’s bad (as I often say) but this August it’s been ridiculous. And that’s before the strikes.
