Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

When I said I was off to college in Eastbourne, I was expected a whole town of wrinkles and thankfully, it is nothing like that anymore.shirley_basso said:For their wheelchairs, surely?

Been catching up with the World Swimming/Diving champs over the last few days. Realising that the Chinese divers create less of a splash from 10m than I do getting into a bath is annoying me.2

Some fat weeble just reversing out of a space opposite me, loads of room in a small rust bucket car with a big sent failed to make the turn at the first attempt and managed to do exactly what I was expecting from the moment I saw her move, reverse into me.
I switched my engine on so she'd see I was in the car but she just carried on trying to drive off and stalled by which time I was getting out of the car to point out she'd hit me only for her to drive off in a stink of petrol fumes.
Luckily no sign of damage but I should have caught it on my dashcam.0 -
Having spent 5 hours a day commuting across the Prince of Wales bridge this week I get to enjoy a bunch of protesters attempting to make it worse Monday.0

5 hours a day! Are you riding a tortoise?1

Swap it for a turtle and bypass the bridge.0

Took a crown on Strava for my hike today (didn't even know there was a separate 'KoM' category for hikes!). Within an hour of uploading some d1ck, presumably the former holder, had flagged my 10.5 mile, 4 hour hike as incorrect activity. I know I'm a shit runner but even I would be embarrassed at running that pace.
I've removed the flag just as it obviously annoyed them so much.0 -
The wife is travelling back from Cornwall on a bus trip tomorrow with one of the people she cares for, the trip down took about 8 hours with all the pick ups so dread to think how long the return will take. Not fun when you are looking after someone with learning disabilities!mully79 said:Having spent 5 hours a day commuting across the Prince of Wales bridge this week I get to enjoy a bunch of protesters attempting to make it worse Monday.
I thought the Government brought in laws recently to stop these sorts of protests yet this has been publicised as going ahead with no obvious signs of action to prevent it.0 -
This is now turning into a trivial thing that cheers me up as losing the crown seems to have really got inside the previous leader's head. He flagged it again and a second flag can't be removed but if you change the activity type and then change it back it seems to get rid of it. The person in question now seems to have reported the segment and got it removed altogether, made his account private and block me. I can't work out if that is funny or tragic for a half mile slightly downhill section of firetrack. I'm actually surprised they even bother with leaderboards for hiking, if you walk 90% and jog 10% is it still a hike? I would say so.Pross said:Took a crown on Strava for my hike today (didn't even know there was a separate 'KoM' category for hikes!). Can you add the segment back?Pross said:

I created a new one. I need to think of new things to wind him up - I know it's sad but the thought of him sitting there getting worked up about it amuses me especially as I didn't even know the segment existed until I got an email saying it had been flagged.TheBigBean said:

Fairly sure I had a similar issue that was finally removed at the point when Strava asked for my justification. I think that was the process after a few attempts. The process may have changed since.
My justification was that being faster than someone is no reason to flag. 😉 That said my power was nothing extra ordinary so it was easy to check. I don't really care about the KOM but getting flagged irked me. Possibly irrational but still. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I once rode down the embankment with Strava set as a run, by the time I got home there were more flags than the Tory party conference0

I hold a spurious KOM in Regents Park (Chester Gate T junction to the Inner Circle roundabout). Like you, I didn't know about it until I started using Veloviewer and it was listed as a flagged ride.
I can't think why it was flagged other than Regents Park Rouleurs (seriously) think they're the arbiters of all things fast in the park.
I agree, it's almost amusing that someone went to the effort of flagging it!Ben

Mate of mine left Strava running on his phone after getting knocked off his bike and ambulanced down the great west road in Brentford. A load of KOMS awarded followed by a load of emails telling him that they had been flagged dozens of times.
If the guy has blocked you, i guess you can't see if he has any other KOMS to go and steal? It could become a hobby.0 -
Can't be hard to start another account. Flagging anything where he's on a leaderboard would be childishly amusing as he obviously cherishes the KoMs so much.0

Find it so weird to flag people.
There are some times up the local hill here which are utterly unbelievable. If you have a nosey the ride generally looks legit so meh, maybe I need to believe more.

The local hill here isn't a hill to anyone who can produce a lot of power.
I can think of 1, maybe 2 at a push, climbs where w/kg actually count over pure watts.0 -
I've never troubled the scorers, so need to worry about this. I guess that is trivially annoying.0

Try riding an obscure route. Or one with silly start and finish points. 😉TheBigBean said:I've never troubled the scorers, so need to worry about this. I guess that is trivially annoying.

Yeah, it was pretty much this with me. My average speed over a 10.5 mile hike was about 2.8mph so it is obviously a hike and not a run, just the final downhill section back to my car that I pushed on a bit as I needed to get home and it looked like rain was coming. I think I did it at 11.5 minute mile pace, I would average less than 10 minute miles on a run even in my current lack of fitness. I doubt the bloke who flagged me had even been trying to take the segment so find it really weird that he thinks no-one could possibly go quicker. He must have re-flagged it within minutes of me removing the original flag.pblakeney said:Fairly sure I had a similar issue that was finally removed at the point when Strava asked for my justification. I only use Strava as it's the only way to get the data off the cheapo Xoss computer, but I pay no attention to how slow I am compared with the young guns, as it only reminds me of the inevitability of physical decline as you age.0

So essentially, Strava is a way of getting into a p*ssing contest with random strangers. Glad I've never bothered.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I just checked - and I've still got 5. All running, I don't think I've ever been close to a cycling one.TheBigBean said:I've never troubled the scorers, so need to worry about this. I guess that is trivially annoying.
Ten years ago, it was pretty easy to get running ones, because nobody really used it. Gradually over the years I've been gradually getting notifications that someone actually vaguely fast finally ran that route - I just give a kudos rather than flagging it!0 -
I've figured it out why it irked me. Basically getting called a cheat and a liar.Pross said:

Yeah, sounds familiar. If I'm suddenly riding the Tumble at 20mph I expect to get flagged but doing what is basically within the bounds of physical reason for any person with a average level of fitness just because they are quicker than you were is annoying.0
