Aye but you can you still take a punch?

It's not about gaining muscle in 24hrs, it's about being at a fighting/healthy/optimum weight that is a few kgs over the limit then extreme dieting or not drinking before the weigh in to come back up to that optimum weight. However it is not actually that easy to fully rehydrate and fuel in 24hrs if you have really taken it to extremes so there are drugs that will help with that.

Being able to "make weight" has become a major skill for a fighter now as it means you can compete against opponents that may be naturally smaller or weaker

Clenbuterol is largely used to retain muscle mass while dropping weight quickly

This could be used to get in good CV shape for an upcoming fight

Actually most bodybuilding abused drugs are for cutting rather than mass building

Mass can be gained slowly over time but cutting weight and retaining muscle can be a harder thing to do

I'm familiar with what boxers go through to make weight. Friend-of-a-friend was an amateur pugilist, and even at his lowly level cutting weight was a 'thing'.

You'll note though that the post prior to mine (which I was responding to) refers to 'bulking up'. That's a phrase that has a clear meaning, ime, whether used by combat sportists, thugs or gym junkies.

The bulking up was an error on my part. I meant making weight but posting the wrong term. That's what you get for not taking the day off after a 24 hour flight

I've got a confession to make. I've been taking anything available to try to beat my man flu before the IAAF World Half Marathon tomorrow and haven't done any checks against the WADA list. Hope I don't get tested as another big name scandal could finish the sport!

150 is an awful lot for a single story. I'm dubious that they would have incriminating evidence on that many. Which makes me think that it may turn out to be a bit of a non-story

Word reaches my shell-like that it may have been more hyped than it turns out to be in terms of real substance (scuse pun). But I guess we'll see in a couple of hours

The Sunday Times does seem to be getting a little, umm, frenetic

This for example is pretty unimpressive stuff

They say that Premiership football players may be involved.

Well the head doctor at my team (West Ham) is called Vandenbroucke so I've got no worries about him.

But I'm sure the Sunday Times will have ensured he is credible before excitedly running this front page story

Tbf, Fuentes was a dodgy flake too, wasn't he?

Edit: that sounded a bit "well that's what Lance said". Wasn't the intention.

Well we shall see. I have a Times sub so I'll be reading the full article when they publish online in an hour or so. Let's see if there are names, or just empty air (I've heard it's the latter)

Meanwhile Dr Mark has a busy Apr. He's up before the GMC. Anticipating being struck-off, no doubt

Ridiculously little. Surprise myself on how I can function on so little sleep

Ok. Not one single name named in the MASSIVE EXPOSE, according to @sportingintelligence (who''s usually all over this sort of thing like a rash)

There won't be any names - headline refers only to the doc's claims. They may or may not have another story to run on the back of this, but don't hold your breath.

So I shouldn't get up extra early to make sure I get a copy?
  • Interestingly, reading this article, it almost smacks more of an attempt to bring down UKAD than anything

    Odd
