strangely I've heard the same thing said about footballers and Fergie saying when kids break into the team they need to bulk up a bit. Naively I used to think this just meant eating a few more steaks and working out in the gym0

*in fact probably not anyone. Pencil thin cyclists with upper body strength of a twelve year old probably can't.Twitter: @RichN950 -
It's already been covered in this thread, but when Operation Puerto kicked off there were links to Real and Barca. And Barca agreed to pay for Messi's HGH if he signed as a schoolboy.
And you only have to look at how Gareth Bale's physique has changed since moving to Madrid. Left pic on day of arrival, right pic a year later.

Here he is last March. Once again relaxed. Where has the muscle gone?

Football, rugby union and league, swimming, horse racing, rowing, athletics, tennis... I doubt there's a major sport that hasn't been significantly impacted by doping in one form or another over the past 20 years. Whether anyone cares to investigate those in depth is a different question: there's too much money or national interest tied in with some of them.0
-
Just so I'm clear, when talking about football are we to suspend the credulity we give team sky and Paula "Ive never tested positive" Radcliffe? Also are we allowed to claim doping in football now because its as plain as plain can be or because its not the first sport of many posters?
Only i can't keep up with the hypocrisy.
Right then selective cynicism / wilful disbelief it is then.
Oh man - I'm with you, Vino'sG - I can't keep up either.
The problem I find with thinking about things on a case-by-case basis is that it can really mess about with the preconceptions that I spend my time trying to shoe-horn reality into.
i have to report a genuine LOL so true0 -

Dinamo Zagreb's Arijan Ademi fails drug test after win over Arsenal

No team sanctions unless two or players fail a test. Now the key question is how many players are tested per match? It would make me laugh if it was only one.0 -

Will be interesting to see what he failed for. My guess is still recreational drugs as football doesn't seem to test for much else0 -

I'd be surprised if it was 1 per match to be honest.

Not sure what/where the 33k test's cover, but it's it's all of football then 33k tests isn't much when you think of how many players it'll cover. There will be over 2k professional footballers in England alone.0 -

They'll be russian around trying to shred evidence as we speak.
To be fair to the Russians though, they have only bribed the IAAF and FIFA, hardly too important. I very much suspect that bribery isn't a way of life.0 -

'Commission to unveil report on Russian doping allegations on Nov 9'
The report's called....drum roll....'Top secret doping - how Russia makes its winners?'
TV and film-makers wont even have to think up a title
Pound's in his element0 -
as least this is starting to get a bit of media coverage.
Its probably easier to find a sport that doesn't have any doping going on these days0
