Watching Johnson's piece on Jesse Owens, probably the athlete I admire most in history, I couldn't help wondering what the usual suspects would have made of him had he come on the scene today. It just goes to show here have always been athletic freaks who have huge levels of natural talent and it's such a shame that any that we get today immediately face suspicion.0

I don't agree that any we get immediately face suspicion. Suspicion is earned on the whole, not always, but more often than not.0 -
It depends on the audience. For some winning is enough cause and dominance is conclusive proof. When you add in coming from nowhere they'd have you hung draw and quartered.0

Well, Ennis doesn't get any flack, nor the Brownlees or many others. Mo does.
Jessica Ennis-Hill just gets body shamed by the scummy tabloids instead.Correlation is not causation.0 -

It was a few years ago and they were commenting on her muscly/big things and 'manly' arms. I kid you not.Correlation is not causation.0 -
Newspapers and stupid womens gossip mags have a lot to answer for.
Few years back my missus said she didn't want to do her spinning class anymore. Asked why she said she didn't want muscly legs. I had to point out that my legs weren't particularly muscly despite all the hours I put in on the bike.
Funny how it all comes round though and fit/muscle seems to be the in thing for women now.0 -

Wasn't it something about her looking fat in the run up to 2012 (by someone at UK Athletics)?0

And what about all the other women competing against her who don't have her testosterone advantage? They're training their guts out and don't have a hope.
Interesting that when she was taking testosterone suppressant drugs she was getting nowhere. Then the CAS ruling allowed her to come off them and surprise, surprise, she wins Olympic gold. I wish I had 'her' level of testosterone.0 -

Some pretty disgusting comments on CS on this thread. Regardless of whether you think she should be able to compete with her testosterone levels (and this is something that the relevant sporting bodies are looking at), to go beyond that and start making snide comments about her gender and inferring that she is a he is beneath contempt.0 -

I have a lot of admiration for CS. Despite the constant shootstorm surrounding her she never looks fazed by the constant unwanted attention.0

Oh come on! She's got testes which makes her at best an hermaphrodite and therefore shouldn't be competing against women. Save your righteous indignation please because I'm not interested and you can stuff your contempt.0 -
ive never seen it written before that she has testes, has this been documented before ?
CAS decived she could compete despite the high testosterone level and overruled the IAAF on the limits they imposed. That was the issue0 -

I don't know enough about her situation to comment on whether she should be allowed to compete without hormone suppressants or not, but I can't see any justification for people suggesting she isn't entitled to consider herself female.0 -
I didn't think the testes thing was confirmed ?
Thought it was something called "hyperandrogynism" which is basically loads of testosterone. There was a leaked report that said she had no womb or ovaries and had internal testes instead but I thought that was unverified.
In any case her gender is her own business, but when it comes to sports they have to draw lines somewhere.0 -
Our friend Ross Tucker has written reams on this. Take with a pinch of salt, but he says she has testes.

Love the way he manages to get a dig in on Froome in an article about Semenya.
Also love this comment.

Out of interest, what has Tucker said on the subject of Wayde van Niekerk?"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

Well... he presented a suspicion index a couple of days ago (1-10, with 10 the highest and apparently he won't go below a 3) in a twitter discussion with Syed. From what I can piece together:
Rupp 10
Russians (all of the I presume) 9.5
Football 9.5
Farah 9.5
Dibaba 9
Lance 9
Blake 9
Bolt 8
Froome 8
Thomas 7
Radcliffe 7
Rudisha 6
Trott 5 or 6
van Niekerk 50 -
What why is Lance at only 9??0
-
Oh man, I don't understand that list at all...
But Blazing he also wrote this on the man with no churchVan Niekerk is an example of locally developed excellence.
