Brilliant. How do you suggest we measure success then?

Maybe we should make the pros ride it like a sportive. Well done for finishing- remember its not a race.

Jesus- some of the shit on here in the last few weeks is incredible.

See you in the New Year.

Really, this Brailsford chap is clearly a bit of an idiot. I can't see his teams ever having any significant success in cycling.

Yes reading this forum that certainly seems to be true. :o
Currently I have been mostly riding a Specialized Roubaix Comp

very rider tested positive for several banned substances including steroids and growth hormones. At least four used erythropoietin (EPO), which enhances the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. Three others were declared positive for amphetamines and a fourth for cannabis. The report said the riders used powerful "home- made cocktails" of banned substances.

    Flip me, what a "sport"!!!

I might have missed this as I was away for a few days. Is it true Rogers has confirmed he never doped?

s'what Inner Ring said. Apparently all Sky team and staff have had their interviews. If they havn't gone yet, then they are not going.

Does Rogers have a contract though? He signed initially for two years and I haven't noticed anything about an extension.

Was Henricus Theodorus Josephus Knaven in that team?

That's what I was thinking. He might try and sneak out the back door in the close season, although not too sure where he might go. Green Edge seem to be getting a bit tougher at the moment, showing Matt White the door (probably puts them ahead of Sky in the queue for Brad McGee as well).

So out of the 7 or 8 which you'd think would have to go, 2 told truth and went, 1 "retired" or "told truth", depending and 4 or 5 lied / were innocent all along.

    Great success I would say.

  • Sky are one team of 18 ProTour teams. Leaving aside Garmin 'let it all hang out' and OGE, that leaves 15 other teams to set their policy.

So don't fret, Iain, I doubt very much that BMC, OPQS, Katusha, Astana etc will be following Sky's lead on this. Instead they'll create an environment in which they'll encourage all their staff to 'fess up, take their sanctions and return to the warm embrace of the teams :?

    Iain, very good post.

I am also torn to some degree with the SKY approach at the moment I feel that it maybe a tad over idealistic and I can't help wondering if the Garmin approach is not more pragmatic.

Time will tell of course but it would help the road ahead (pun) if there was a more united approach throughout the teams but that might be too idealistic as well. :?
  • I think Sky were a little naive to set up a team untainted by previous doping scandals. Having ex USPS-discovery riders in their organization may have seemed an obvious flaw to us but remember people speaking out against that team were in a minority when Sky cycling started.
At that time people having an axe to grind, disgruntled or jealous ex employes could not be ruled out as an explanation for those few who had come forward.
Today there are many new excellent cyclists coming through the ranks untainted by the past. Sky have the financial backing to attract these into their team, so going forward the 'no past or current doping' rules can only stand them in good stead.
Cycling is currently the largest retailing market for sport. The potential for large sponsorship deals exists like no other time before it. The only way to get the large sponsors back is to be credible. There must be little chance of having their companies associated with mass doping.
Garmin gives the old guard a chance to ride clean and see what they can achieve fairly. Sky is the blueprint of the future were people only get contracts based on natural ability and hard work. The kind of people that for twenty years were no longer able to win grand tours, who were lost out the back and cast aside. Sadly most of them gave up.
What type of team would you like your multinational company associated with?
  • So it seems that with his Vacansoleil contract safely signed and in his jersey back pocket yonks ago, Flecha has gone on record saying that he's not wild about Sky's zero tolerance policy, and saying somewhat cryptically (or rather, not):
'My past is my own, I dont have to share it with anyone'

    Off fires the Arrow

What a douchebag. Your past may belong to you but if it's doping filled, your present belongs to someone else

Look at Flechas ears and nose and tell me he isn't sharing his past with us!

Jeremy Roy appears to be in favour of a zero tolerance approach...

  • So the remaining team all signed ...

Yet Cav left and Bernie remained ...

Now imagine this team was Radio Shack or Saxo ...

More changes to come. To be fair, if it was only the 2 that went I'd be shocked.

I see Hamilton called out Rogers in the Dutch press a few days ago too.

    Walsh On Brailsford

@DavidWalshST - Yesterday's meeting with Dave Brailsford? We spoke for 4 hours;he is bright, interesting and, I believe, committed to clean programme.

@DavidWalshST - The whole Leinders affair was shocking. He talked about it at length, pointed out his mistake and his willingness to explain was admirable.

Reactions from the Twitter Taliban to their Glorious Leader praising their worst enemy is hilarious!
