US Presidential election

It's about time we had a thread on the US election...
It's less than a month to go before Americans go to the polls to elect their 45th President on Nov. 6th.
Standing for the Democrat Party, incumbent President Barack Obama seeking a second term in office.
Standing for the Republican Party, former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney.
The campaign is heating up, especially after the first televised debate last week. There's two more debates to go before polling day.
Obama has led in the polls for quite a long time but since the first debate Romney has closed the gap substantially. It's worth keeping your eye on this blog: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/ which has lots of useful information.
Their Nov.6 forecast says its a 60-40 split in favour of Obama to win. Only a few weeks ago it was 80-20 Obama.
So who do you think will win? Who do you want to win?

Who will win?? Easy, the person prepared to bend the truth the most to suit his goals. I feel truly sorry for those Americans that have a brain in that they are governed by and live in a country full of those that do not. I seriously hope Obama wins, but I think it unlikely. Essentially the USA is pretty right wing and that usually means the republicans have an easy day at the ballots, so long as they don't say anything stupid like equal rights for minorities and women!!0

IMHO Obama is style over substance but at least with a lack of substance little harm can come.
Romney is dangerous, and mostly because he doesn't know it.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Mmm, uncanny.0 -
Just back from the US and things seem in full swing. I think it will be close but as ever will come down to the two key battleground states (Florida and Ohio). It's always more watchable than our General Election0

What's the feeling out there? Who's got the momentum?"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
Depends which news station you watch
I'd say that Romney put Obama on the backfoot a couple of times in the first debate and has huge campaign funds. However there's still a feeling that the Obama has a lot more ammo in his locker0 -
I really don't want Romney to win.Tail end Charlie

At the time of the last election I thought the general expectation was that Obama was going to save the US and then save the world and as a result would be made president for life! I think a large number of voters expected so much from him that he was never going to be able to deliver and are now disillusioned. As a result he will lose a substantial part of his majority but will cling on for a second term - at least that's what I hope as the alternative is worse.0

As I said at the time that Obama was elected and everyone was queuing up to fellate him for saving the world, the greatest irony of all would be for him to be "just another politician". <insert sumg smiley> I still can't believe Mercans' negative attitude to the healthcare reforms though.
The sad thing is Romney may be the guy to start the US economy again from which the entire world will prosper however I don't think he has a right atttude on foreign policy and so for that reason I'm out.
BA for me.
Having worked in the travel and tourism industry I don't think the septics are thicker than any other nation per se, they just seem to be so confident in themselves that their own ignorance of things doesn't occur to them.0 -
If the rest of the world could vote...

That's the thing, I know they aren't happy with the US operating it's drones and being able to bomb people in their country at will but do they think having Romney in power will mean less of this?0 -

Romney is more likely to sabre rattle.
That's what worries me.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Please, America, do not vote in someone who believes in the Planet Kolob. I will give you a clue, it is not Obama.“If you do what always do, you'll get what you always get.”0

coincidentally, it's Bolok backwards0

The amount of money that is being squandered on this election by a nation that has many of it's residents being thrown out of their homes and ending up living in beaten up cars is a bloody crime in itself.
The really scarey thing is how we here seem to adopt most of there awful bloody traits.
This is the guy who kick started the collapse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Friedman
ps. Can Mitt Romney serve two masters? :shock:0 -
Good speech by Obama this afternoon in Iowa. Whatever you think of his policies you have to admire his oratory skills0

A lot of British companies are sponsors in the American Elections, Thatcher and Reagan both used the same Milton Friedman economic polices which have led to the current world wide economic crash, so don't think it can't happen here.... it does.
Most of us great British tax payers (apart from the money manipulators of course) are currently going through hell whilst those in power are busy trying to kick start the same old failed system again. Why you may ask, well basically it made a small minority very rich but it was a vehicle that couldn't be controlled (market forces) and ended up killing off those of us that fed this great greedy beast with it's insatiable appetite.
Apart from letting in a whole bunch of nutters/hypocrites in by voting republican it also lets a whole bunch of people who don't believe in any form of personal or collective responsibility for there actions, which is why they are so fond of going to war and exploiting others.
Does the company where you work sponsor political parties :?:0 -
I think this little girl sums up how a lot of Americans are probably feeling: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/11 ... 55015.html
