For those who enjoy the thought that Mr Cavendish is some sort of idiot. Would you be able to walk away from a three year employment contract, with two years to run, without having to pay some form of compensation?

Yep, because I'm sure he does all the negotiations himself and doesn't have an agent or anything with extensive experience of these circumstances.

Sky didn't seem to be too bothered about fighting to keep him either - they now know they can achieve bigger things than stage wins and a couple of semi-classic sprint victories, they got the season of him in the WC jersey which he is unlikely to stand another chance at before Qatar, all the Olympic hype he generated plus a few wins. It's been a win - win really, I suspect if they knew how the season would pan out Sky would have happily offered a 12 month deal in the first place but I doubt Cav would have accepted it at the time.

You obviously don't work in recruitment.

    Neither do you

Untill my gardening leave is finished, I sure still do ;).

Im not sure, when Sky signed him, Wiggins hadn't won the Tour/had the season he has. Had Wiggins looked like he was not going to win, they had a dead cert Green Jersey favourite too to back the team performance up. As it panned out, Sky are now able to blow trumpets about being a GC team yadda yadda and let Cav go. When they signed I think Sky needed to cover their backs with Wiggins.

I must admit to feeling a bit ashamed of Brit Cycling when the pictures of cav hauling bottles to the front made the press, it showed a lack of respect to the WC Jersey in my view. I suppose there is no 'i' in team (two in elitist though!). Still, making Cav collect bottles was wrong. - Bit off topic, soz!

    Isn't Fran Millar Cav's agent/manager?

Nope. He has the mahoosive and expensive Wasserman Group representing him now, specifically Si Bayliff

The shots of Cav on bidon duty on the Tour stirred up two camps in terms of reaction: the 'how dare Sky disrespect the World Champ in this way' and the 'what an amazing team player Cav is - never had a chance to see him in this light before'.

There were a couple of factors. Cav said repeatedly in interviews before and during the Tour that he was riding as part of a team and wanted to help out where he could - just as he did in the Tour of Romandie in Apr - Cav wasnt forced screaming and kicking into doing such 'lowly' tasks as fetching and carrying. Quotes from him in Procycling/CycleSport in an article on Sky at Romandie made it quite clear how he regards working as part of a team. The second is that things got tougher for Sky when they lost a key dom when Siutsou crashed out on Stage 3 - it meant that Boasson Hagen had to be more focused on supporting Wiggins, Eisel felt more compelled to do likewise, and Knees had to pick up a shed-load of extra responsibility. Cav took it on himself to help out as much as he could before they hit the high mountains.

Personally, instead of feeling ashamed of Sky (note, not BC) I felt pretty proud of Cav when I saw him in action.

Agree with the above. I don't get the 'disrespecting the jersey' argument at all. Cav was part of a team and on the days when the stage didn't suit him he helped others. I'm sure he's not the only WC in history to have done bottle duty. In return he had the yellow jersey lead him out to two stage wins and tear himself apart to try to get Cav the Olympic win not to mention all the work Wiggins and co. did to help Cav win the jersey in the first place.
  • I thought it was funny, but then I can't stand Cavendish. But don't think it was disrespectful as all.

It showed a huge amount of respect for two of the riders who helped make him World Champion. I can't even begin to understand how anyone can view it as disrespectful to the jersey.

Fair enough, I shall remain alone on that one then!

In fairness though, what is said by a rider in a team press conference isn't always what happened. Take Froomes attack that was called to a halt by the team very quickly and the press messages afterwards. Also Cavs missus wasnt too polite about his treatment on twitter.

To be fair, what Cav said at Romandie wasnt said in press conferences but was Cav himself talking directly to the journo. As for the lovely Peta she went ballistic when he crashed on Stage 4 and I think her twitter rant was about him being unprotected without full support rather than angst about him carrying bidons.

But we all form our own views I guess

  • Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I wasnt talking about Cav in Romandie, never mentioned it! I was using the situation where Froome attacked and was pulled back immediately by radio so he didn't drop Wiggins. Petas twitter rants whatever they are about show a feeling of a lack of respect, that was all I was on about. I guess the bottom line is that he is in the wrong team!

Now you can draw lines if you wish ;-)

I thought it was Froome's missus that tweeted a load of crap during the TdF rather than Cav's?

They all did, even Wiggos, its going to be bloody awkward at the Chrimbo bash, God forbid they have the same frocks on

Comments made by Froome's missus in last months Pro Cycling cannot have gone down well in the Wiggins household either.

Something about the Wiggins not socialising with others.

The impression i get with Wiggins and family is that they are pretty down to earth, especially Brad, and most of the time they just want to live their lives and get on with it, Brad in particular doesnt seem too keen on the celeb side of it.

Whereas Froomes tart of a girlfriend is just an attention seeking gobshjte who Twitters like she knows everything about pro cycling and should be Team Sky manager. When she tweeted throughout the Tdf i noticed that Mrs Wiggins generally popped up if she felt she had to defend her hubby to Froomes gfs inane ramblings.

I get the impression Wiggos Mrs would give you a right hook if you sl@gged her hubby off too much, whereas Froomes tart would squeal and run off to fix her makeup.

So? This year we whinged about how the break always stayed away and we had a boring finish with no spectacle. Hell, even iain, who has been whining about boring flat sprint stages for years was complaining!

Whatever happens at the tour you can guarantee 100% that it will be wrong!

Mrs Wiggins comes across as a bit unpleasant in her twitter persona. She might not be.

Froome's missus just comes across as a south african princess.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

I don't really like any woman being referred to as a Tart.

Irrespective of her opinions or beliefs she doesn't deserve to be labelled as that.
  • So, has his departure been confirmed? I've not heard that he's been signed up by another team yet!
So far, it seems to be that he'd like to go somewhere he's the Number One rider, at all times and there's now no buying out clause to worry about.
