  • Is this still a chipper of a race, or has the improved field elevated it's status?
As it is increasing in popularity, and proximity to Worlds in the calendar, coupled with GB's current status (and the nation's love for anything sporting) will it become a ProTour race?

Kristian House - why's he not been signed to race at ProTour level?

Well my first experience of marshalling went well, the public were all very nice apart from some fat American idiot who decided he wanted to stand in the middle of the road just after the line for the intermediate sprint and wouldn't move!

Yeah, Lance has really let himself go. Must be all that comfort eating.

You should have left the fat focker to be mown down by the police / media / commissaires vehicles and then just hosed him off the road

Will be on Caerphilly mountain to watch on Friday. Would like to have gone to watch them over Upper Chapel but have other committments, should be a great stage for the cameras if the weather plays ball!

Lol, the lady marshal who was trying to move him was very polite as we couldn't be horrible to members of the public, the crowd on the other were shouting "Get on the pavement you fat idiot!" Which did the trick once he'd worked out what pavement meant :-)

To be fair I can see why he might have been confused, they don't have pavements in the USA because nobody walks anywhere.

btw I think the roadbook for the Surrey stage is slightly wrong.

    It goes:
58.2 36.2 Junction Right Staple Lane
58.3 36.3 KOM Cat 3 Start Gate on Left (Staple Lane)
59.6 37.1 KOM Cat 3 Finish Opening on right
60.9 37.9 Junction Left Coombe Lane (Caution Steep Descent)
    62.1 38.6 Keep Right
64.9 40.4 Junction Right Crocknorth Road

However IIRC the Coombe Lane steep descent surely occurs after the junction they take (which is also known as Coombe Bottom). The devil in me wouldn't mind seeing them all try get to get round the sharp right-hander on that at race pace !!
  • Took the day off work to go tomorrow.

Any suggestion on where to go to get a few photos on route before going down to Dumfries to catch the end.

    Someone at work suggested Moffat.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks
    Stuart

I'm gonna try and make it from Jedburgh to St Marys Loch and then down to Dumfries for the finish... Unrealistic? Is it worth seeing the sign on in the morning or should I just go find a spot on the race route early?

Depends what you want to see - You not only see the signing on but a neutralised 'parade'

I saw them today on route and the spectacle lasted 8 seconds - they are impressive in flight though.

I think I'll go for the start... See how im doing for time trying to nip around the long roads to decide if I stop midway or not, and make sure I make it for the end. It'll be an adventure for me! Noone else seemed keen when I asked if anyone wanted to join me driving 3 hours to Jedburgh to see some men ride past on bicycles :(
  • When will the roads close? I was thinking about trying to get to the second Cat1 climb Turner Cleuch Law, but would plan to use some B roads to get to Dumfries

Found my own answer.. using that google thing people keep telling me about!

"The first escort bikes will close the road approximately 10-15 minutes ahead of the first riders, forming the front part of the race 'bubble'. Ahead of the arrival of the first riders a number of police and NEG motorbikes will pass by before the foreward announcer car. This will inform you of the current state of the race – who is on the attack, where the race is and what has been happening.
Typically there may be more than one group of riders, each of which will be escorted by motorbikes and also accompanied by one of the ITV4 camera motos.
Each group of riders may also be followed by several cars, including judging vehicles, Specialized neutral service and team support vehicles.
Behind the peloton will come the main convoy of vehicles, including further judging vehicles, team cars, RAC cover, paramedics and ambulances before the famous broom wagon and the course closing police vehicle. Once this has passed the road is re-opened and the normal rules of the road will apply."

I noticed this although the commentator did say he was on a spare bike, neutral service maybe? The guy in the break was on a CAAD10.

I plan to watch around about the Grey Mare's Tail on Stage 3.
Ended up watching from Loch of the Lowes in the end as they wanted £2 for parking at the Grey Mare's Tail. Boy is that a long and winding road!

  • I'm going to cycle down to Brecon to watch it, would love to get to Caerphilly but it's too far (for me) there and back to Hereford.

    Anyone else going to Brecon?

Because of his age and he is bnot good enough basically.

Why didn't you park on the verge at top of the climb like everyone else did?
