Got my Rose today, finally!
Struggling a bit at the moment to inflate my front using the Mavic valve extenders! Managed to do the rear eventually.

Really nice bike but please don't lean it up against a wall like that!! Your brifters will get all scratched.0
-
Lovely looking bike. What's going on with those pedals though?! Get some Ultegra SPD-SL's on there.0
-
I assume you'll be getting some proper pedals?
I don't use the long valve extenders (don't you find they rattle?). I just screw in an extender, then take it off. Looks neater and no rattles. My pump gauge can get a bit flaky but I can get the pressure in.0 -
I've taken off the extenders now having sort of managed to pump up both wheels, although it's difficult to see what pressure they are at. I didn't expect it to be such hassle with deep rims!
It's going to the LBS tomorrow for a quick check as I've probably set it up all wrong. As for the pedals, I'm going to use flats for commuting for now then invest in some shoes and "proper" pedals when my bank balance recovers.

That is awesome.
However, the pedals are not acceptable...0 -
Is this your first bike or something? Those pedals!
Anyway, I have a Rose Xeon CRC3100 and I'm very happy with it, am sure you will be too.
And don't lean your lovely carbon unpainted bike against stone/brick walls, it will end in tears0 -
Oh and unconventional choice for a bike to commute on, best of luck!0
-
Haha enough with the pedals they will be replaced when I can afford it!
It's not going to be used for commuting normally unless it's very nice weather. I'm just keen to ride it as you might expect. I might do London to Brighton this weekend or go around Richmond park a few times to give it a proper ride.0 -
Riding around Richmond Park is not a 'proper' ride
Is it your first bike?0 -
Yeah, it's my first road bike.
It's maybe a bit much for a first road bike, but I wanted to treat myself!0 -

I got some Shimano 520 pedals and Muddyfox shoes (both work excellently) for a total of £40

My LBS has some stainless steel Speedplay Zeros for £100 down from £150. Quite tempted.0

Absolutely awesome bike, very jealous, maybe a bit OTT for a first bike, but you obviosuly worked hard for the money so why not enjoy it Dan0
-
That is lush, almost makes me want to get a proper job to earn proper money!0

Just received my Xeon 3000 and I am loving it, I am also riding it round Richmond Park. It looks very different in the smaller size especially the headtube. I also really like it with Campag.
What is that chain-stay protector you have on there?
Enjoy it!0 -
Yeah, mine is 51cm. I reckon I could probably do with a 50 or 49 really but this model doesn't come in any smaller sizes. What size is yours? Get some pics up! I'm going to cycle to Brighton tomorrow for the first proper ride on it.
It's just the cheap Rose branded chain stay protector. I also got them to put a clear downtube protector on it.
I've also ordered some black stainless steel Speedplay Zeros from Ribble for £87. Thanks for the link declan1!0 -
Im 6'2 and went for the 59cm and it fits really well, the downtube protector is a great idea, I wonder how long my white stripe will be white.
I also have black speedplay zeros and they are brilliant, I had the Look Keo classics before. I reckon they're much better.
I am either riding it or cleaning/stroking it at the moment, but will get some pictures up soon. Enjoy the Brighton ride.0 -
Just got back from Brighton and the verdict is...I love my bike.
I think I need to get padded shorts as my rear was a bit uncomfortable after a while. Also, despite the downtube protector, a pebble strike managed to put a hole in my frame below the protector. A little annoying that carbon is so fragile, but I've taped it over and it's out of sight anyway.
Also pretty happy with my gear selection (53/39, 12-27) as I did okay on the hills and Ditchling Beacon wasn't that bad at all.
These Speedplays best be worth it as following this ride I didn't really feel I needed "proper" pedals as the flats were fine. If it's just to "fit in" then I'm not really that fussed as I doubt I'll be doing anything competitive.0 -
First of all, a hole in your frame isn't something to just shrug your shoulders about, get it checked.
Secondly, no, clipless pedals aren't worn just to 'fit in', they offer great benefits.
To be honest, you've already gone down the road racer look (carbones, bling etc), and now you stop short because you don't want to be seen to fit in or something? That's a bit weird isn't it?0 -
I don't think it's weird to question fitting something I don't perceive to offer me personally any benefits. Obviously I should reserve judgement until I try them myself. I don't want to fit in or not fit in, I just want to enjoy my cycling and if using flat pedals is more enjoyable (after trying both) then I'll leave them on.
Can you list the benefits? I'm trying to learn, so I do appreciate any advice.
Also, do you really think a small hole could be a problem?0 -
On closer inspection it looks quite bad!

Hard to tell off a pic what the damage is,it could just be laquer/ paint damage which is probably superficial- take it to your LBS and get them to have a look- with regard to the clipless pedals- the benefits are that they make pedalling much more efficient as your feet are "stuck" to the pedals- combined with a good stiff soled pair of shoes it means that much more of your energy is going directly into moving the bike forwards. If you are using trainers at the moment than they will flex each time you push on the pedal which is hugely inefficient. I can remember being amazed at the difference shoes and being fixed to the pedals made when I started riding - admittedly when I started clippless hadn't been invented! Good old clips and straps! (crap in comparison to clipless these days IMO)
Make sure you get your pedals and shoes set up correctly and then practice clipping in and out while holding on to something to keep you upright- it becomes second nature surprisingly quickly.
Appols if you've heard all this before!!
Really great bike by the way- enjoy it!0 -
Thanks, those do sound like worthwhile benefits and I'll be sure to report back once I've used the Zeros.
From what I can tell it's definitely a hole as you can see the orange cable sheath and it appears to damaged slightly. However, it does seem to be a bit too round which is strange if caused by a stone. The placement seems weird though if it is supposed to be there.0 -
Looking at the photos, it looks like the white strip may have been stuck onto cover the cables, in which case it isnt part of the structure of the downtube - there seems to be a lip the white strip starts- this would mean that it is cosmetic rather than structural and therefore won't effect the integrity of the frame- it could well have been caused by road debris- cant see any other reason for it to be there?-however, without seeing it in the flesh as it were, its very difficult to say so get it checked out just to set your mind at rest.0
-
Looking at mine, the white is just paint (over the carbon), not a lip and is very much part of the frame. It also seems that my downtube is thicker (internally) than yours so I'm not sure it is cosmetic. As above I would take it to your LBS and get them to take a look at it, it certainly dosen't seem like regulation damage.0
