What next for Wiggo?

I think some posters are unnecessarily harsh on Wiggo's GT riding!!

What, by saying he might get beaten by someone who's already won 4 of them?
More that there's a general feeling that the opposition was weak, the route suited him, and so on. The opposition was strong enough for plenty of people to be tipping riders other than Wiggins before the race started, and he took time out of all the opposition (Froome excepted) in both TTs and mountain stages.

All year, people have been expecting Wiggins to fail in this stage or that race, then backtracking and saying that the opposition was poor or the route wasn't as hard as it looked. Planche des Belles Filles was a recent example. And yes, I think there's still a general expectation that "proper" opposition on a "proper" course would sort him out.

Apart from the people who think he's doped to the eyeballs, that is.

Hmm, I thought all that I said was that I thought Contador would beat him next year, unless your meaning someone else. I'd be quite happy to be wrong, I would much prefer Wiggins to win again, but we'll have to wait until next year to find out. :D

It wasn't really directed at you in particular, more Rick's "Anyone think he'll win the tour". I think he stands a fair chance, if he is able to regain the form we saw this year. Even with fewer TT miles, or more climbing, the fact is, Wiggo's diesel climbing engine, is fairly impressive.

He's got to be top of the BBC's list for the next series of "Strictly Come Dancing" hasn't he?

Great! Sportsmen always do well. My favourite is still Mark Ramprakash. That Argentine tango. Whew!
Who'd he dance with though? Christina maybe?

Anyone think he'll win the Tour next year if he goes for it?

If he cares about his legacy, and I'm not sure if he does or doesn't, he should call it a day.

I get the impression he hasn't always been the most dedicated athlete - though he's obviously put in the effort the last few years.

Go out on top IMO. What can top this year? Look at Gilbert, Cancellara, etc. Could he accept coming 2nd or worse?

I'd like to see him return his focus to the track in the next couple of years.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head about what Wiggins should do next. But perhaps what I’d like isn’t what you quite mean – six day races. Maybe someone could also organise them again in London and/or Manchester.

It’s about time some road stars showed up at them again. In the last few years Niki Terpstra (he was in the Olympic RR) has been the only rider at them who was regularly on the road in summer, though a few years Zabel and the likes of Van Bon and Knaven were often at them, even Bettini and Cipollini occasionally.
But the last time a TdF winner was at any of them was probably early 1990s, when Fignon and Roche (albeit past their peaks) did them.
And it's not as if they are unfamilar territory to Wiggins, he did several in the period 2002-2004

Just at the moment (i.e. these coming months) I think they’d be a huge success.
