dw300 wrote:I'd just like to point out that the 'Revolver' workout (a sufferfest video one) really really fatigued me! I tried tempo runs the 2 days after doing it (yesterday and today), and my legs are still pretty tired. Should have worked at endurance or active recovery those 2 days, but outside I find it hard not to push on a bit .. it was sunny!
Its a tough workout that one, any improvement on power output yet :?:0 -
I'd say there is .. but I've not done another test just yet, but I'll update when I do.
Interesting I was cycling with my usual buddy today and he called it a day after 40 miles because he was busted .. normally it's the other way around.
http://www.trainerroad.com/career/dw300 - here's my career page to get an idea of power records thus far.All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Hi all been using TR on and off since it started i am now thinking about racing again next year after a good few years not racing, the training plans look interesting very structured and progresive, its anyone else working through the plans, just wondered what other people think.
many thanks Colin.0 -
Very beneficial in respect of keeping training highly focussed.
For my level of amateur racing it covers all the bases - I can't justify extra cost of powertap and or a fully featured training peaks for instance.0 -
I'm working through intermediate base 1 at the moment, mainly to give me a little bit of structure. Because everything is scaled to your FTP it would be hard to not make improvements of some sort. As you don't keep repeating the same workout, it's pretty good for motivation as well.
Edited to add the latest:
Tunnabora Went a little over target for the last couple of intervals.Nil Points0 -
With respect to the programs question .. I haven't tried them. I usually just do my intense intervals and recovery rides on TR that I simply wouldn't or couldn't do on the road, and do my longer 2hr+ rides on the road.
Come the winter i'll probably have to find a set program to keep me going. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

My turbo is sitting directly under the air conditioner set at 18C with a ceiling fan on full whack and another fan from the front and I still lose well over 1Kg an hour in sweat  but it is cooler than going out on the road in the humidity 28-35C where I lose up to 2Kg an hour.Nil Points0

My trainer is in my living room in front of the TV. It's 24-25° and I have no fan, but the heat doesn't bother me. I just throw a towel round my neck which usually ends up soaked, but once you're covered in gravy it cools you pretty quickly. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

It's good to have you back Sir.
I did this 'yesterday' ..
http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/80347 - Prep wasn't the best .. doing it at 2am probably didn't help either .. and since I'd ridden the 2 previous days I didn't feel great in the latter half .. but I managed to get her done. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Can I join?
I was very fat, lost weight, got fit, had FTP of 327 then broke my hip. I am now halfway fat again, but working on it.
Had a few years off bike and a few aborted returns to cycling, but the hip kept playing up. This year I've started slowly and started increasing my training. So far, so good.
Decided to try trainer road since I have a powertap and had my first go today. I guessed from WKO+ that my ftp would be around 225, but in fact it was 240 according to the 20 minute test.

I need to get the test pacing right and fix my head. I'm sure my giving up moments were more psychological than physical. I find the turbo trainer very uncomfortable on my back as it's not as easy to get out the saddle for a few seconds and change position. If I'm not pushing hard the base of my spine hurts, I need the pressure of pedalling to alleviate that, that means the sorest bits are the rest periods. So after the test, I packed it in and stretched off, rather than twiddle along in pain. I think my core needs strengthening - I noticed my shadow wobbling around as I got tired.0 -
Hi guinea, welcome to the thread.
You're totally right about the first test being a matter of getting positioning and mentality right, and getting used to the distraction of the whole new set up. You'd almost certainly go better immediately if you did it again tomorrow.
It'll be good to get your input .. always good to see people improvement.
Breaking a hip sounds bad .. does that have anything to do with your back pain? I've never had back pain, but I'm pretty flexible and have a strong lower back from other sport. Perhaps some foam rolling would help loosen you up and improve flexibility. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

My 15 TR workout - I did Revolver again, but went for just 10 intervals at about 150% FTP .. and that was plenty! All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Nice .. 0.98IF for 1hr 12m is a tough ride! I'm expecting you'll be able to up your current FTP if you can handle that?
We should all do our 20 minute test in the last week of every month for a bit of motivation. I'll be like a 'Bigger Looser' TV program weigh-in, lol.All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

The last 10mins or so of HHNF was all some psychologist giving it the beans about mental state. I don't need a psych to tell me that I am fucked after 1hr of watching pro womens bums :oops:0 -

I'm currently back to annual rejig Base Form and Technique.
The workouts seemingly not so hefty... not so
This one http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/81349 trying to follow its minuscule variances for 3 x 20minutes asks many questions.0 -

Did my first training session after my initial test.
Did "Gayley" as part of the intermediate plan and found it OK. I had a little too much energy on the final interval to wound it up a bit. I don't know if that means I need to increase my FTP a little, or if I wasn't supposed to bury myself.

In 4 years of ownership hat's the first time I've ever lasted a full hour on the turbo. I always pack it in after 40 minutes. So well done to trainerroad for keeping me interested.0
