As a kiwi, who arrived in the UK in 1996 as a xcountry mountain biker, I've watched every TdF since I got here. This year I got to do my first Etape, just to get a taste of what the big boys go through. Finding out that Cav (who is a 'sprinter') took 4hrs less than me to do the same stage put things into perspective for me. I'm relishing this victory for UK cycling and long may it raise the consciousness of the public to us cyclists.

On another note, and I mean nothing by this about Froome's considerable talent, but does anyone else think he looks like the main character from 'A nightmare before christmas'?

I think the US Sprinter Maurice Green, not sure why he was there. He seemed to be doing a piece for ES on the Sky bus too, all rather odd.

He is the Eurosport man at the Olympics according to Harmon.

What a win by Cav from so far out, thought EBH had overcooked it coming round the corner and so Cav took the initiative which, when you can see how fast Sagan was coming up, was a fantastic move tactically and he had enough to get there.

Couldnt believe Lesley Garrett doing the anthem, that was quite surreal because of the hideousness and unsuitability. And I didnt see them do the shot on the podium where they all get up and hug for the camera. Maybe because there was too much showing of the studio bores and not enough showing of the podium presentation.

Did anyone hear Sean talking about how Cav will be able to put the stage profile piece of cardboard on his garage wall and in 15 years stand back and admire "The Eurosport Cardboard"? Brilliant stuff.

All in all a cracking final day.

Also, I walked in to sainsburys to get some milk this morning and checked the papers, Wiggo is front page in everything pretty much, the Mirror want him to light the flame, The Times havent even got a front page story, just a massive picture of Wiggo. QUite amazing.

Yep. Brilliant stuff from the Eurosport commentators. Their coverage has been quality.

Getting Abdoujaparov into the studio was quite something as well. And Brian Robinson, that was quality.

There was a brilliant bit where he asked Wiggo a couple of quick questions after the podium ceremony. He was with a Eurosport interviewer who asked Wiggins about the Olympics. Clearly feeling he was on firmer ground, Greene said "Oh, so now you've got yourself a golden [sic] jersey you fancy trying for a gold medal then?", Wiggins replied with "I thought I might try for a 4th one, yeah" :D

Interesting photo. I note Froome is completely isolated.

That'll teach him the lesson! :P

I think it's just that his bike handling's so poor, it would be risky to put an arm out and he needs plenty of room either side in case he suddenly swerves off line.

Did this Tour really just happen? My earliest memory of the race is Roche coming out of nowhere and collapsing 25 years ago (I didn't really know what was going on, but it's still vivid in my mind anyway). For most of that quarter century, a good British Tour was generally one in which we had more than a single rider. Winning a prologue was a major success. Recently, we've had Cav to win some sprints, but even Wiggo's 4th in 2009 felt like a freak result that he'd never be able to repeat. It's unreal.

I wish Wiggins hadn't crashed last year, because it would be really interesting to know how he would have done on that route with that opposition.

I posted something similar a few days ago. I agree completely. I don't think Cadel would have won last year.

So the office people who routinely mocked my love of cycling are now trying to debate the ins and outs of preparing for the olympic road race.

Don't agree. The Evans isn't the rider he was last year, for whatever reason. And also isn't part of the Tour avoiding the crashes in the first week? You could argue that Hesjedal would have won the race if he hadn't crashed on the stage to Metz.

Indeed. Evans was ill during the race as well this year.

Went to local shops yesterday (few hours before olympic torch came by, bloody police state it was) and saw a hottie in a short dress explaining to her mum and dad about the sprint in Paris. She got it wrong, but hey, whatever.

A few years ago a friend of mine was at the final stage of the Tour and an American girl wanted to know what sort of time Neil Armstrong was going to be coming past. :D

I have just got back from the States where I managed to watch every stage on NBC. It was nearly on every minute of the day so if I didn't catch the live action (damn wife, daughter and daughters mate wanting to do stupid things like swim with dolphins and go on rollercoasters  ) I managed to catch the evening repeat which showed the majority of the stage.

I loved every minute. I always hoped Wiggins could do it but never really believed. What a three weeks it was.

I can understand some people thinking it was not the most exciting Tour because of Skys total dominance and the lack of riders capable of attacking but for me supporting the team and Wiggins it doesn't get much better than that.

I would compare it to the football team you support winning the league by 20 points and winning every game with ease. Not everybody is going to like it but as a supporter of said team you don't give a s**t.

That's the thing - we'll never know. Last year Wiggins had won the Dauphine, and I had a sneaky feeling that he might be on the fringes of the podium. Given the form he showed this year, who knows? It's frustrating, but there are just too many unknowns.
