Should be a good final today, maybe another for Rodriguez to scalp some seconds and time bonuses.

At 5 km to go, the road finally kicks up. For 2.5 km on a road that becomes narrow, stone-paved and very twisty, the average grade is 9% with a maximum 12%. The last 2 km is on a country road which descends slightly to the finish.

If a breakaway doesn't get this, I'll do something outrageous.

This one has bonus seconds doesn't it? If the break is small, then I think it might get pulled back, but I suspect after the rest day the break might end up pretty big so I'd agree with you - not that I'd do anything outrageous.

If no one of danger is in the break, Liquigas will let it go. Or should.

Just depends whether the squadra Ruskie can chase.

I'm confused about today's stage - the official site describes it as a medium mountain stage and yet there doesn't seem to be any categorised climbs on it. Even the ramp at the end isn't shown on the profile as a registered climb.

Probably not, they don't seem to be doing any work at the front at all!

Went to see the stage in 2004 that finishes at Falzes. Watched the race here...

    Falzes 2004

What a great place to watch a bike race! :D

Although think they are using a different climb today.

"I think that an advantage of one minute and a half on Basso and Scarponi before the time trial should be enough, but I'll need a bit more on Hesjedal - about two minutes," Rodriguez said

174 starters - Stefano Lucatelli (Colnago) only one not to.

Apparently a fast start but 12 might be away.

Almost 50km/h for the first hour. Not hanging around. No breaks gone.

yes but there is a problem

if sky controls and brings the break back before the sprint he sets up Jrod for a high points finish because the intermediate is close to the stage end..

option 1 get cav in the break!

option 2 small break of one or 2 men so there are some points left at the sprint. suffers the risk that a small break gets caught before the finish back to square 1

option 3 bring it all back then attack over the top [how you had to control the race all day] and push on any break

Certainly a dilemma as it is on paper a perfect stage for el purito

Edit: maybe I'm reading it wrong but the main inter sprint is after ~80km

The TV sprint has fewer points? Happy to be corrected, these giro comps are confusing :)

Get a sky rider to take him out just before the climb.
