Nice win by Bak. Jumped at the perfect time to get away.

Bad luck for Casar in terms of the GC. Still 26' back but deserved to go into pink, at least for one night.

Decent stage that one. Looked for a while like the break would be caught and then there was the question of whether the leader's jersey would change hands add on the stunning scenery and what more could you want?

Short, lumpy stage today so hopefully they'll be pushing harder from the start. I don't know Italy at all but the stage information I've read says it's a beautiful area - Sky player here I come!!
It's got some kind of world heritage status, a number of small picturesque towns hugging the steep rocky coastline.

There's a Cinque Terre granfondo in early september, for those who would like to ride these roads.
Today's stage only covered about 20 km (between kms 70 and 90) of the Gran Fondo route, and didn't come close to the pictured village of Manarola.
Originally, from soon after La Spezia, the stage route was to go closer the coast, just behind several of the coastal villages, Manarola included, but about a month ago, the route was changed to go more inland.
This was because the road just behind the Cinque Terre coast suffered landslides last Autumn and was not yet deemed to be in a good enough condition.
Had they been able to ride the originally-planned stage route, the riders would have covered about 50 km of the Gran Fondo (km 45-90 plus an extra 5 km due to windier roads then the re-route took them on).

Here's the link for the Gran Fondo: http://www.granfondo5terre.com/
I can recommend the hike along the coastal cliffs too.

I reckon I can break wind better than any professional cyclist...

Just found out that Casar was 6th overall in Giro 2006. Very impressive.

Never thought i'd comment on something like this but...J Rod's sunglasses are more Scissor Sisters than Pro Sportsman.

Surprisingly little comment for one of the best stages so far.

Did the breakaway get caught? No.
Did we see some racing from them for the stage? Yes.
Was there a possible leader's jersey at stake? Yes.
Was there some classy descending? Yes.
Was there some dodgy descending? Yes.
Was it won with a good attacking move? Yes.
Was the winner a well respected rider who well deserved his day of glory? Yes.
    Did Cav crash? No.

    Ah.

If Basso could descend like Savoldelli he could wrap this up.

And it was a nice gesture to wait for Scarponi too.

Does anyone think that Leaky would have waited if a non-Italian contender had crashed?
