Beats the usual bullcrap from the know it all types who could ride/direct/produce/climb/sprint/commentate better than the pros.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim they could do anything on a bike better than the pros.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

I wonder why some people even bother watching cycling to be honest. All they want to do is f***ing moan.

If you don't like it, turn the f***ing thing off!

All very valid but I haven't seen anyone on this thread moaning about the cycling. The only moans have been about Eurosport coverage starting late yet again.

Fine. I can only speak for myself and a few others, but by and large, the people you refer to probably watch as much racing through the year as they can.

I certainly love cycling more than anyone I've ever met, save for perhaps the odd one or two I met in the pub through here.

Like those football pundits on Football weekly who say matches were dire and awful, cycling has racing which is dire and awful.

We watch enough cycling to have opinions on what is good cycling and what isn't. Cycling on its own is no longer enough. We have seen far too many races, in some cases BEEN to so many races that we can be picky about what we like. Similarly familiarity with a subject creates a more refined taste - one that is less easily pleased.

All die-hard fans moan about the entertainment value of their sport from time to time. Football fans moan the last world cup final was a poor match, F1 fans regularly say that despite the Monaco GP being a very exciting setting with history, the track more often than not provides poor races.

What you forget is that the same guys on here also call last year's Tour a "Stone cold classic" and the 2010 Giro as "the best GT ever since 1989 TdF" - and they get all excited about old clips, great attacks etc.

Luckily, we forget the rubbish stages over time, so we're left with the memories of the best bits.

A peloton pootling at 35-40kph on the flat with only 5 riders from a few teams interested in chasing down a breakaway of lowly placed GC riders is not an exciting spectacle. We get it's a part of cycling, and 3 weeks of solid racing can't always be exciting ALL THE TIME, but it doesn't mean we can't say that, by comparison to what we like, it's rubbish.

Eisel looking at the route card to work out if it's worth trying to get back on at the foot of a 2nd cat climb ;) I previously thought him and Cav were leading the peloton!

Surely that is the main peloton?
  • Into the last 40kms and the lead is now 6'32

The majority of sports fans do the following:

    1. In the event of something dull / poor perforamce etc, declare the sport, teaam, player useless, and not like the good old days
    2. In the event of something exciting / good performance etc declare the sport, team, player the best thing ever and forget that item 1 was only yesterday, or half an hour earlier in the pro bike race.

This is not unique to cycling. This means that a flat stage goes from "seriously how bad is cycling these days" to "that was the best sprint ever" or "that's the greatest breakaway and will never be repeated".
  • Well then last 4 minutes or so have been very interesting....a piece on the podium girls

    superb scenery ;)
  • Not sure when it grew from 6, but the break has 8 riders in it...they seem to be starting to try and attack each other now too.

    Fine. I can only... *snip*

I get that people watch cycling. I get that people watch a lot of cycling. I watch cycling. I watch a lot of cycling.

Doesn't mean I feel the need to whine and moan like a Schlek brother every day until something happens that I like though.

    That's kinda what a forum's for, isn't it?

Expressing opinion about something - in this case, professional cycle races.

But here's the thing you're the only one "whining" on this thread.

Bak's stage if he makes it over the final climb with the rest of them. Be nice if Keiser gets it though.

You're missing my point. Expressing the same opinion EVERY day (and often before the stage has even bl*dy started) is a bit pointless, no?

It seems odd that you have chosen the one stage where no-one is whining and moaning to whine and moan about people whining and moaning!

We need some form of tiered analysis to identify which complaints are top-class and which are just chipper whinges.

Clearly I'm the "chipper" for daring to complain
  • 31kms and the gap now 5'15 or so
  • Superb descent currently for the leaders...but the type that would be a nightmare to enjoy if you have traffic to think about!!

Gap coming down fast now, can't see them holding on over the final climb :(
