I also benefitted from the efficient workings of LOCOG's excellent ticketing system.......zero tickets and 40 minutes of my life I won't get back.
If the system told me "tough sh ! t, you're too slow" then fine....but to offer me four tickets, ask for my card details and then tell me at the end that the payment system has failed....it's like they're enjoying f u c k i n g with you.
My plan is to get dropped off on the backside of Box Hill in the early hours and then go walkabout in the woods until I find an opening in the fence... If you find yourself stood next to someone in camouflage paint and combat trousers on the zig zag you'll know the score.0 -
totally with you there hobbesp
even though i have tickets i may be forced to have to resort to this as well. so many of my friends and family haven't got tickets and would like to go but wouldn't be willing to put up with jumping over fences or evading angry skinheads in fluro jackets, however I WOULD.
therefore i've got the day off on friday and may be stealth camping overnight somewhere in the scrubland on box hill...0 -

I was just going to get the train down. But if i'm honest I have no idea where Donkey Green is, or even how far from the station it is :roll:0 -
Does anyone have any thoughts on the three 'cycling festivals' being held in the area over that weekend as places to be based, and to view the non-Box Hill sections on screens?
Also, are there any other points on the Box Hill loop where it might be worth trying to view from?0 -

me too I went for the Donkey Green tickets as they were more expensive thinking they could give me a better view. Didn't realise it wasn't the ziz zag until later but at least we have a ticket.
Went on the national trust site for Box Hill and that doesn't say where Donkey green is either0 -

thanks for that. We we get a big screen and also there's food and drink so we can get stocked up with beer
I went on the london2012 site this morning but that just had a map of the whole route and didn't detail where Donkey Green was.0 -

Was about the same at the veledrome and despite 8 beers each, was worth every penny.0 -
£4.60 is cheap round these parts. Unless you frequent Weatherspoons (as I do ).willy b wrote:Rick Chasey wrote:How are people getting there? I would cycle but with the gf in tow that's not an option.

Getting to Donkey Green from Box Hill station -

But that's via the Zig Zag road which I'm betting you won't be able to walk up. There are loads of footpath routes that are a little more direct that go up the hill. Not sure if anything will be blocked off.
I'd bike but it would take me 2 or 3 hours with big hills to deal with on a mountain bike (sorry, I'm not a roadie :P - interested in this though and have a friend coming who's a roadie). Not going to risk locking up an expensive bike there anyway.sherer wrote:I went on the london2012 site this morning but that just had a map of the whole route and didn't detail where Donkey Green was.
p.s. just along the road there's a themed western bar/restaurant thing. Never been in it. Looks tacky but probably okay. Not sure it will be open during the weekend though as the route goes past it.0 -
Looks like we might not need a ticket after all.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18866153In the latest flashpoint involving G4S, the BBC understands only 20 members of its security staff from 300 originally contracted have turned up for various Olympic duties in Surrey.
Troops are being deployed to make up the shortfall due to G4S failures
Their tasks include guarding ticketed venues at Box Hill, where thousands are expected to watch cyclist Mark Cavendish go for Britain's first gold medal on Saturday 28 July.0 -
Troop deployments on Box Hill!
Those who ride Tunnel Hill etc will know how to avoid them0 -
Might be a dumb question, but...Anyone know if you'll be allowed to cycle along the closed roads up to the race starting?0
