Can't help but notice the olympics in the chipper catagory.

    I guessed this might happen.

Do we assume that green jerseys and equivalents are not even worthy of mentioning?
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

    Correct.

They'd be in a section with a clown in the background to denote they're novelty competitions

How would national RR championships be categorised? Surely some years/nationalities are more chipperish than others?

    Unless you're Belgian it's a chipper.

Looks good to me apart from Tirreno in top category and Worlds TT in bottom (why?).

Contador hasnt ridden TdS and it was won by a Schleck so think that should mean it drops a category.

I'd drop TofC down to - that one is more of a joke than TdU.

TdS - Shleck has won the TdF too - Does that mean it should drop a category?

Worlds TT is a made up nonsense race. When we had the GP Des Nations that was a real TT test. World Champ on the road should be world champ on the road regardless of discipline. Kind of like this

    How about Tirreno?

Just before M-SR, lots of guys in good shape, usually an interesting route.

An article in this month's Pro Cycling presents some persuasive chipper credentials.

Looks like Contador might ride the Eneco...

Does that mean it moves up a category?

Where does Qatar fit in? Presumably the screen isn't big enough for a chart that includes it? Also Oman which probably deserves chipper status if the ToB and TdU do.

It needs a sub chipper category for training races like Qatar, Oman and the Tour Down Under. I am shocked Iain has allowed the latter to rise to chipper status. He may have 25 years experience of grading races, but it means nothing when simple classification errors like this are allowed to creep in.

    Tough crowd.

What should I call sub-chippers then?

    Sh!tty small?
  • Tour of Oman is chippier than a chip shop owner with a chip on his shoulder. Cycled up Jebel Akhdhar on the day the pros did it this year, to realise they literally only do one third of the climb.

I agree with Frenchie -- how can the Tour of California even be included?

    The entire race kills time.

Anything that Levi wins is not worth watching.

You need to draw a line.
Extended metaphors, euphemisms or throw-away (albeit traditional) labels never hold up to extended scrutiny.

A can of worms was opened by indicating that there is more than one level above chipper - it implies that there are more below.

Keeping with the culinary references, the following categories could cover pretty much all the races I can think of:

    1. Cake & Fine Wine (CFW)
    2. Roast Pork (RP)
    3. (Fish &) Chipper (CHIPPER)
    4. (Sh!tty) Small Fry (SSF)
    5. Potato Peel (PP)
