"Trail etiquette says you pull over to let faster riders by"

Hmm, I call BS on that. Trail etiquette is you can choose to move aside if you like only when it's safe and convenient to do so, but it goes the other way that the person behind *must* give way to the person in front. If the guy in front moves aside it's up to them. Far better the fast riders allow space for the slow ones, typically by just holding back for a bit until they can do their blasting run.

Anyway, seeing that video, class. The dick filming is the guy mainly in the wrong, or at least didn't help by pissing the guy off, being so close and trying to run into him, though obviously the other guy gave him a kicking which is maybe OTT, but then again :D
  • In fairness, all cockery aside, that looks like a really nice trail.

That's what I was thinking too.

Plus when trying to pass a slower rider you can at least be diplomatic about it, in the rare case of me passing slower riders I usually wait for an area where I can pass, if the trail is too narrow, I "ask" if I can pass them.
I have no issue letting faster riders get by me, but I usually find a place where I can stop.

Mr. GoPro certainly did have an "I art holier than thou" attitude and as rewarded with a justified beatdown

He also forgot to ever ask to pass as far as I could tell. If you dont make someone aware of the fact you want to pass, why would they let you?

He did didn't he, I think the issues arose because when he asked the bloke said yes, but then didn't pull over for him or give him any space to pass. Then he got a bit annoyed with him... maybe he shouldn't have been such an arsehole but the bloke shouldn't have assaulted him. Appears to be making national news in NZ

Or just pulled over for 30 seconds and then set off with some clear trail.

A civilised person. I'm a bit rubbish and not very fast, and hate it when someone sits on my wheel on a bit of singletrack. With my mates I set off last, and they kindly wait for me at the end. On the rare occasions when I do catch someone up, pulling up for a few seconds is relatively painless. On a long trail, some simple manners make overtaking quite easy.

Just watched it - the d1ck did get past, then seemed to take a different route and came up behind him again.
    Nice bit of trail though.

Nice trail! Pity bout the pansy shenaingans!

I heard him ask to pass on several occasions, but then equally there seemed to be doubled corners which the filmer who seemed to know the trail could have used. The bit where he loops back it seems that it was a large looped corner that the front rider has cut. Why the filmer doesnt take the opportunity there to cut in front is a mystery though....

I would hardly call the behaviour of the filmer inflammatory enough to warrant such an @ss kicking though, good way to teach some patience though I guess!!

@mcnulty - New zealand is an amazing country. People are the same the whole world over thats the problem, for every group of nice people theres the odd prat lurking about.

^^ ditto - Canadian comes a close second.

But the problem with those cams is you can't really get a feeling for speed. It always looks faster than it is.

Given the width of the track I'd say matey was a little too close if the speed was as fast as it looked. Some people try to race you when you come up on them, I'm fine with that makes it more fun.

He was far to close, one wobble from the guy in front and they both would have gone down hard, Mr Go-Pro was being a jerk, at the end it's not really clar how the pushing and shoving escalated, 6 of one and half dozen of the other really.

How hard is it to sit and wait for a couple of minutes, he ruined his and the guy in fronts ride.

Quite, I was riding with a group this weekend, and I found it easy enough to catch up and get stuck behind other riders. Solution? Stop, wait, start again. Hardly a big pain.

thankfully 'trail etiquette' where I tend to ride involves trying not to interfere with anyone elses day be that pulling over for someone quicker or waiting a bit if there's a slow group ahead.

matey behind was such a little squealer, threatens to run the guy off the road and then gets all tearful when the chap clonks him.

Shame the guy in front went for the camera.. I would have liked to see the aftermath, or at least the guy with the camera get a slap.

As I am the most quickest, super-gnar rider there is evarrrr, I hate waiting, so I carry a length of chain with me on rides, and take out the slowpokes road rash styleee with a whip to the face

Nah, not really. I'm socially awkward, so try my best to steer clear of any interaction with anybody. If that means waiting for 10 minutes while other riders/groups go in front, so be it. If it means pulling over and either letting them pass, or waiting for them to get a good distance ahead, so be it. I'd never really ask people if I could pass, as:

a - this increases the chances of me falling off in front of someone.
b - this means I have to talk to someone. :(

As has been said, both a pair of douchebags, who should know better. Very nice looking trail though.

I think most cyclists are. Particularly the wimin ones. I've never met so many odd/geeky ladies since I took up cycling. Its a bit of a head feck, as they tend to have the body of a gymnast coupled to some sort librarian's head.

Just to clarify, I do have a penis, but enjoy reading, long walks in the rain and knitting. :P

Know what you mean though, I think thats what I enjoy about cycling.. I love getting out, away from everything.. hate team sports. Suppose there is something a bit awkward to the 'outsider' about a grown man with a pushbike worth a few quid.. then you have to explain why it's better than a £99 bso.. :(

And wait.. wimmin cyclists exist!?

Neither cover themselves in glory but an "assault" was nt justified. Fine, Go Pro Guy asked politely but if the guy in front clearly has dickery in mind then just stop and let him go on a bit, not worth ruining the ride over.

That said, guy in front clearely has some anger issues and needs to relax a bit, if a douche is riding close up behind you then just slow a bit and let him go past, not worth ruining the ride over

Mostly however, it sounds like that scene from the 12th man (amusing Aussie Cricket spoof/impression thingum)where Bill and Tony have a fight about the pigeon, which meant I just couldnt take either of them seriously...

    lol this made me chuckle.

The guy in front wasn't going outrageously slowly, he was doing all the ride-offs and jumps so it's fair to say he knew what he was doing. He even stopped after a while and the camera-guy ran into him because he was too close!

Then the hilarity of having taken the wrong turn, getting up to speed and coming up behind him again...class! :P

"it's on camera mate"! (cue other guy trying to rip the camera off his head. Brilliant.

Don't think that's what happened- the guy in front cut the corner, he rode back round the loop (trying to create a gap?) but just caught up again because he was miles faster than the nutter.

The important thing to learn here- if you ever record someone being a nutter, DON'T TELL THEM! It's a recurring theme on these vids, "Hey mate, you nearly knocked me off my bike" "Yeah, I was trying to!" "Also I've got it on camera" "Right, I shall now trounce you" "What was that for?"

Apparently the nutter violent bloke stopped there and asked him which way the trail went (despite him seeming to be quite familiar with it). At which point the fast whiny guy ran over his foot "by accident" and tried to lead him round that little loop the wrong way so that he'd be ahead of him... then as soon as he started off the nutter violent bloke carried on the right way down the trail leaving fast whiny guy to do his little loop thing

Both bellends but I have noticed that people who wear Go pros are almost universally knob heads who think they are gods gift. Bit embarrassing though getting slapped by a middle aged bloke with a beer belly and bar ends. Think I might have kept quiet about that

The chubby bumblebee shouldn't have resorted to punching the whiney little girl but I would have had words if I'd been followed all the way down a trail with some Sam Hill wannabe crying in my ear that he couldn't get past, despite there being several opportunities where he could demonstrate his skillz and do so.

Neither are a good advert for our sport. The Chubster should have his Lycra confiscated and the Little Girl should have his GoPro taken away.
