Specialized FSR XC Pro (WIP)

Went for a 15 miler today through Wharny - very rocky (you have to navigate through boulder fields on the 'red' course, I needed a trials bike really!). Low BB is a real issue, lots of pedal strikes.
Thinking of putting a 140mm rev on there and some big fat tyres. The Spesh Capt/Control are shite.0 -
you do have to ride them a little more 'with thought' due to the low BB mate. Yes the spesh tyres are not good wharncliffe tyres! more for tow paths!0
-
Yeah, had to ride a lot different! Couple of pedal strokes, level pedals, hoist the front end, lurch, repeat. But kept stalling amongst the boulders, was quite a bit of walking today! With the GT I am used to power wheelying over stuff and not worrying so much about the pedals, but the FSR sinks very low.
Was very muddy too, all that rain on Sunday had turned areas into a quagmire.0 -
Oh, I dropped through Hallwood at the end of the ride, some nice rooty, twisty trails in there!0
-
Could have picked those forks up mate!0
-
I thought about as I cycled down Burncross road lol! Will give you a bell this week.0

no probs mate, I'm in most of the time as I've done my back in so no riding for me0 -
Took me 6 months to adjust to riding full sus from a HT completely different approach I found. once you get used to it you can get over anything have no fear0

will your frame take 140mm forks will it not put geometry out with rear only being 120mm still. I too have a far xc 2010 version heavily upgraded and was thinking of putting larger travel forks on as well but didnt feel comfortable with having larger travel at front compared to rear.Giant tcr pro ultegra
Cannondale CAADX GRX 812
Voodoo Marasa 20110 -
It should do - though always good to check about warranty.
With steep 71/74.5 degree angles and the low BB, the frame feels like it was designed around more front travel.0 -
120mm max front forks to keep the warranty :-)0
-
Ah well, if it breaks my Uturn forks were set at, erm, 120mm... ;-)0
-
hang on..... didn't you have reba's on???????0
-
I was going to put 115mm Rebas on, but ended up with 120mm Marazocchi Marathons. I have a Tora 318 Solo Air which is going on now, great fork. Will buy a Rev eventually.0
-
i checked with Spesh and they said only go to 130mm
when i had my Scott they were happy for me to add 20mm to the front, but Spesh will only recommend 10mm
the geometry isn't massively different to a Stumpy, so it would prob be fine with 140mm, but you don't want to find out its not fine when you are landing a jump...0 -
Looks like the Tora could be ideal then.0
-
Tora now on. As good as the Zocchi is, this is better - smoother, superior damping, less ramp up.0

Another change! Now has a 140mm Minute Elite TPC! Also changed the wheels to my Sun Ringle, and the chainset to LX.

They are the same as the Usagi:

So great price! They indeed are similar to Shimanos, use XT pads.
Yep, a Fox Triad.
Do you recommend the Hygias? I currently have Tektro Auriga Comp's and wanting to upgrade.0 -
They are a lot lighter, with a better lever feel if not quite as much top end power.0

Brakes work great.0 -
Well worth it! Has done what I needed it to do.0
