Doesn't it come with a clutch mech, rendering a chain device useless and extra weight?
Can't do what a chain device does though. In fact, I'm not certain what a clutch mech really does, apart from ad another checkbox to marketing guff.

No iscg tab fail, rendering it all but useless

A lot of shorter travel trail bikes like this don't come with ISCG tabs. From what I can tell they only tend to put them on bikes with 150mm or more travel. Ok, some ISCG tabs would be a nice addition but 1x10 hasn't been really accepted by manufacturers as good for trail use and they are still speccing double or triple chainsets. Now if this was the longer travel Carbine then I'd fully agree with your comment.

It's become very commonplace to run a twin ring with some sort of chain device though. With normal bbs, it's not an issue, but you can't fit a bb mount device, if the bb is press-fit.

This. look at how many people use some kind off bb or iscg mounted guide on here and you'll see just how much of an issue it is. I'm willing to bet both pivot and intense would have sold a helluva lot more if they came with tabs an/or a standard bb. Ibis did the same with the SL-R too on second thoughts, which kinda ruined that! (although the sizing on geometry on the old mojos which the SL-R is based on is poop too)

The two I've a jones for just now are the Whyte 146, and the Epic Evo Carbon. One of each please, festoon 'em with eyewateringly expensive bits, job jobbed.

Bingo... No ISCG tabs on a hard use frame is just an omission with proper BBs, but with press-fit it's a total ****-up.

Can have more or less any race bike I want, so I'd say either a Mojo SL-R or (because it's more expensive!) a new road bike... let's go for a new Trek Madone 7 with Di2, an SRM chainset and several sets of carbon wheels.

Edit: oh yeah, realistic... balls. Let's say a current Madone with Ultegra Di2, a Power2Max chainset and one set of carbon wheels :?

The 146 is a very, very nice bike, has been a while since I rode it, but it still sticks ot as one of the best bikes I've ever ridden. plan to do a back-to-back ride with the HD at some point, which can only go well

Not sure if they are actually that great but absolutely loved the look of these from the first time I saw one about 5 years ago when I was just getting into mountain biking.

My Session 8 is pretty close to being my dream bike, but if I had unlimited fundage i'd go for a 9.9 and a Cotic BFE.

The session would be stock and the BfE i'd build up from the frame

must admit the fully pimped out 28lb session trek built for the launch was pretty damn nice! the new BFe looks ace too, and it comes in bright green... (i'm undecided whether or not i regret getting a 456c so early in the year )

Hmm. On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, the revolt turned out to be a nightmare bike so hopefully they've sorted that...

What was wrong with it in the end?

Revolts? More or less everything, in the end they scrapped the model entirely and are warranty replacing them with Undeads (which still don't seem to exist). Really sad story for Evil but also for owners. I only had a brief go on one and it was lovely.

I'm testing a Session 8 at Inners later this month, can't freakin' WAIT!

The session 88 would be my dream bike though (and the only reason I'm testing the session 8 is because they didn't have any 88s left in stock). Sadly, I doubt I'll ever have the earning power where I can justify spending £7k on a pedalbike.

The 8 is very well specced. I bought mine then took it straight to j tech for a suspension set up and it's without a doubt the best downhill bike i've ever ridden. Feels super light and responsive but tracks the ground like a boss. They're fairly short too so good for the twisty tracks at inners like the bottom of gold run.

Let us know how you get on but I reckon you'll like it. Everyone of my mates who's tried mine says they get on with it.

It does sound like the Trek design team had a go on Sheep's mum, then designed their bike around this 'perfect ride'...

So, what? People were lusting after an untested bike that they had no idea how it would ride or survive?
Yeah, cause that doesn't happen here all the time

i'm thinking of getting a transition tr250 frame sometime next year when i come to replace my intense. i want something with more travel but not a full on dh bike. i want to splash out on it as well as i won't be getting a new bike till after uni so i'm thinking 2013 saint drivetrain and brakes, deemax wheels, totem forks and vivid air shock

    YeehaaMcgee Posts: 5,740
If you're going to go ahead with that, Jay, then careful with how you build it.
If you go over the top, you'll end up with a bike that is only suitable for DH, really. So you won't end up riding it much for anything else, and you'll regret not getting a "proper" DH bike.
Do you really need Deemax wheels, and Totems?

    I've been there, done that.

Agree with this, seen plenty of people build a big heavy bike and end up only using it for DH, then wishing then just bought a DH bike. If you're going to go 'all mountain' then it has to tick the box of 'versitile'

Me too. Everyone said an SX Trail was a great "UK downhill bike", whatever that is. So I built one up, solid and dependable, and crap. Like a modern trailbike, except it didn't go up hills. Didn't go down any better. It turned out that what's better for UK downhill is a downhill bike, astonishingly.
