horses for courses. It really bothers me the way people spout rubbish about sit in sprinters. there are rouleurs, climbers, sprinters etc. all have their merits and talents. IMHO people who cannot accept that all different types of rider have an equal place and equal amount of respect due to them should find another sport to watch.0 -
Cav Interview....
behind the wrong wheel on the decet on the Kemmel, Nicki Sharp lost the wheel, thought top 25 was Ok over the Kemmel, next year will be top 10
hard race...try again next year

I agree. Surely one of the beautiful things about cycling is that there are different areas in which people can excel. A big 6' 5" guy can be a monster on the cobbles, while a tiny 5' and not many inches guy like Rujano can excel in the mountains. Or you can be a time trial specialist, or a sprinter, one for the hills, etc. No one type of rider is better than the other, they are just focusing on the area where their physical attributes are best exploited.
As for Cav himself, wasn't there something a while back about how his team did the usual pre-season power measurements and he was worst in the whole squad? I don't think he would try to suggest that he is the most gifted athelete in the peloton, but he can sprint fast and makes sure he has a team to help him get into the mix at the end of each race.0 -

Just watching the repeats on Sporza and he was being bounced around like a ping pong ball in a jacuzzi. Marco Marcato was leaning on him a lot, it seemed to me, so he did well to get 5th.

Ah, come on now. I know Singapore's a lot further away so you might not have seen the fact that he had no chance to hold a line.

Do you mean that Professional Sport isn't the same as the amateur basement? Well that's a shock.
Next you'll tell me that Andrew Strauss doesn't actually make the match teas at Test matches and Wayne Rooney doesn't take the kit home to wash after a Man Utd match.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Try sitting on the back of even a UK chipper race, arguing that you can't do any work because you have limited athletic ability, only to come past in the last 50m, and you will probably end up being punched in the face!
I can recall the days when people like Phil Thomas were masters at this. This was known as 'Doing a Thomas' or applying 'Scouser tactics'. This involved sitting at the back of the break saying things such as 'Errrm, I can't cum through, me legs are gone, I'm 'anging on here.' Once the '1km to go' flag came into view the rider 'doing a Thomas' would have a recovery the likes of which had not been seen since Lazarus took out a racing licence, attacking up the right hand side of the road not to be seen again until the prize money was being handed out.0 -

Exactly.
If every rider was intent on saving their legs for the last 200m the racing would be pretty boring!0 -

Perhaps such attitudes are a sign of the times, but I can remember the days when how you won was at least as important as winning itself.0 -
Sounds like a losers excuse to me...
Certainly can't think of any other sport where such an attitude exists, it s not like it's anything new either, or do you remember the Indurain/Armstrong/Cipplici/McEwan/Zabel/etc/etc eras wrongly? We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Seriously, I mean if you think about all the riders you can remember from days gone by, I bet the vast majority of them you can think off did not hide, ride wheels then pop up to win. Any Legend, created that from champion riding.Contador is the Greatest0
