can't wait to see what kinda weight a tune/cx ray/ arch ex would turn out like, some german sites are claiming 1550g with flows, so an arch ex combo would surely be sub 1500g... which for a tough old set of wheels is fooking light!!

has anyone ever weighed a whyte 146 frame on its own or know a place/site that has by any chance? always been impressed by the weight overall, but never heard of a frame weight? masssive long shot, but what are forums for

To get that light you'd be using alu nips, which totally negates the sole advantage of CX-Rays because you'll just break nipples instead of spokes, it's what happened to me. Just use Revolutions now; same weight, far cheaper, and I've still not broken any.

The Arch EXs are a claimed 400g, my Podium rims built up to 1246g, and IIRC the rims were 290 and 292g (or thereabouts), so you can add c220g onto that if you used A2Z hubs and Revolutions, so yes, 1500g seems plausible.

well my pro2/supercomp/crest wheelset is 1550g dead on, so an extra 100g for rims takes me to 1650, lighter spokes, wayyy lighter hubs... should be easy

The scales show up some interesting results.I was swapping wheels and tyres over betwen bikes today so thought I would share a few figures.

SLX c/l hubs with Mavic 317 rims,Sapim db spokes: 1926g,excluding rim tape, skewers and rotors.

When I last weighed my wheels,I forgot to remove the tape and was puzzled by a discrepancy between what I calculated and what I had weighed.

This time I removed the tapes, and found that they were a surprising 35g each. The tape on my other wheels is 16g............

Also thought you might be interested in the weight of centrelock v 6 bolt.

These are both 160mm Shimano rotors:

XT R79 centrelock with lock ring 134g
    XT R75 6 bolt (with bolts/shims) 136g

Anyway I thought that a nearly 1900g weight wasn`t too bad for a budget wheelset.Though obviously 1500-1600g would be better............

According to Merlin similar would cost £130 new.And if you were considering XT 6 bolts bear in mind that they are likely to be the older XTM756 which will be a lot heavier than SLX centre locks so if on a budget go for SLX!
SLX hubs with 717 rims would be around 1850g.

Just bought a 23g bottle cage for £7. It`s a Blackburn Slick cage from Woolly Hat shop and is bang on it`s advertised weight.Cheaper than most carbon cages!
