For the last 2 yrs I have always climbed off/collapsed just after the Cheshire cat pub. Very entertaining watching others suffer! Am I right in thinking that is the end of the killer mile? I have claimed my medal each time although it is not quite all the way, But you have to watch the fun down below!

No , I'm afraid... it actually goes on to the t junction and round to the left for a bit.. well thats where the running race ends and that be your killer mile.... a faded line across the road is there

How does Mow Cop compare to Winnats pass?

    Winnats is harder

As stated keep it in the green zone and save yourself for the steep bit past the pub. The hardest thing is to keep away from slower riders staling or falling off in front of you

3 of us entered on 1 booking the otheres have received their packs.

Kilo are not respondong to requests for info.

If someone from Kilo is watching this would they care to comment.

I wouldn't hold your breath mate....on them replying to you, that is.

Judging from comments and respones on their facebook page they seem to selectively answer questions.

I'm sure your pack will come though, 2 friends of mine have entered in for the cat, and they have yet to receive their packs, but I received mine several days ago. I think it must have something to do with order of entry, as I entered quite a long time before them.
thanks , we entered in January, all 3 of us on one entry, the other 2 packs arrived 2 weeks ago, mine is well errrr.....

Is it worth me turning up?

    Absolutely, just turn up.

Hopefully your packs should have arrived by then, you've still got a week, or just under for it to arrive in time. My 2 friends who are riding the 45 mile route, their packs turned up yesterday, so there are being packs sent out all the time.

Worst situation, just turn up and explain your situation, it will all be on file anyway, as most things are electronically stored in one form or another these days, so there'll be a record of it. If kilo to go messed up, it's not your fault mate, it's theirs.

If you ain't got anything by Monday, it might be worth trying to contact them, although as I said, they do seem to pick and choose the questions they reply to, and seem to straight out igrnore questions that relate to their own mistakes.

I hope your pack comes in time anyway.

Yeah, its the same advise I give for Winnats. It starts off ok(-ish), but then slowly gets steeper and steeper. The people who attack it at the beginning quickly find that out, and bonk. Whereas if you go slowly you can save it for the last push.

Got my rest in early for this as have been in hospital with gallstones! Hopefully got enough mileage in over the winter, and will do a relaxed long one tomorrow to check things out, then back to the plan written by club coach. Aim now is simply to complete and get up Mow Cop in one go. I think we have about a dozen from club riding, look out for the green and black of Bozza!
  • 2 of my friends havent had the rider packs either, i have recieved an email stating that if you havent recieved them you will have to collect it on the morining of the ride, which if a 1000 havent recieved them will be a nightmare with queing.

even though I (fortunately) received my start pack 2 weeks back all of the concerns others are having don`t exactly fill me with confidence that it will be slickly and smoothly run; I`ve done other KTG events and have not been entirely impressed by organisation, long start queues being one of them. I`ve tried today to download an updated event manual , nothing :(:(
    Not too impressive so far.....

They did say they would send an updated email with links to event manual around a week in advance, along with start time etc. It's not yet a week away, so give em a chance! Got my pack in plenty of time.

    fair point.......
  • Hope everyone's pack turn's up and also Kilo to Go sort the start colour issue out - just launched an independent website to rate sportives at www.sportiverater.com - once you have ridden please rate your experience.

Interesting concept, but what will be done with results? Many sportives already have some sort of feedback on them, even if it is just a post on BR etc.
Are you intending producing a league table of `best` sportives (note sportives NOT sportive`s) (as originally on Cyclosportive site)?
  • I agree. You are talking about a number of sportives, therefore plural. Not something the sportive's reputation is the reputation belonging to the sportive. KIlotogo run a number of sportives but the Cheshire cat sportive's reputation is poor following last year.

email now arrived with full event manual, just got to find out what colours all my mates are!
  • James / Chris - the idea is as a reference for riders, a central point for people to look at. Admittedly that will mean gathering comments this year and then next year it will hopefully be used so people can decide what to enter and not enter. BR is a great forum, I use it myself but often threads drop off with time. Each sportive will be rated separately but I am including the organiser in the titles so they can be searched.

I like the idea of a league table - to be honest its very much a work in progress and will look at ideas like that as the year goes on and if I gain enough comments and ratings.

Off now to re-read the site and look for any offending apostrophes.

Hope everyone has their pack now. I'm in Yellow Zone; a nice civilized start time :D

And yes the event manual is up.

Some good advice in there about road positioning and discouraging zig zagging on the steeper climbs. Better to change down a cog - or walk if you've none left - much safer for everyone else.

    from the fb kilotogo page

"All rider packs for Wiggle Cheshire Cat have been posted to riders. The last packs went into the postal system on Friday last week. If your KILO TO GO account had certain missing information or an obviously rougue address for example then we have retained your rider pack for collection from the Crewe Alexandra HQ on the morning of the event. Do read the manual and, on that score, make sure you get to the Service desk in time to collect your pack and start in your colour zone which is specified in the online rider manual."

i dont think i'm destined to ride this event.
the day after i entered got knocked off my bike and broke my arm,
last week the head gasket went on my bloody car thats still being looked at,
and the train to crewe gets in 9 mins after my start period ends (magenta). :-(
i dont think it'll matter too much if i start a little late, but i wonder what will go wrong this week.

    Starting at 0900 in Green

Has anyone worked out from the manual how the bike parking works? Am I supposed to park my car, drop bike in park, take bike number and helmet number with me, or does the bike number stay on the bike and they check that against my lid?

No--it all seems highly confusing to me too :(

BUT what i think it means , maybe a KTG bod can confirm ?, is that if you`re taking your bike out of park you should have an id on you eg helmet sticker, that matches something on the bike eg ride number----

On first glance this sounds like a good idea, and of course keeping our bikes safe is always welcome, but surely this is going to cause mass waiting, something they promised wouldn't happen like last years event.

I can't see how they will have enough man power to verify each and every person who checks their bike into the bike park, without causing massive waiting times and queueing. Say 30 riders come in a group at roughly the same time to put their bike in the park, and there's 1 or 2 checking that you are who you say you are, then this has to be repeated when you want to leave and take your bike back out again.......and don't forget there's 3000 riders going to be there....and if even half of them want to use the bike park...well, you get the picture.

    I'm not convinced.........but hopefully I'm wrong.

On the up side, the weather looks like it's going to be fantasic for the cat. :)

Yes, I'm pretty such that's all it means.....your bike number must match your helmet number.

I fear the same, and as for car parking i will be cycling from a B&B to avoid that concern too; probably 2000 cars to park ?? somewhere in Crewe,,,

I totally agree, I've got no idea how parking is going to work out, it'll be interesting though lol. I suspect Crewe will look a bit like the front of a school at home time. Absolute madness, park where you can and want type of thing. In all fairness, they don't seem to do a great job organizing things beside the route, such as parking, queueing , start times, etc. It all seems rather rushed and put together at the last minute.

And also, so as to be fair to the residents of Crewe, they should have a decent plan of action for parking. I wouldn't be best pleased if someone blocked me in my own driveway.

    HI

We have a large club contingent travelling several hundred miles to ride this together, that was until we compared coloured tags, really disapointed as this situation wasn't explained prior to booking

Most of us have black tags but several have other coloured tags ranging from magenta to green and blue

Any one out there not currently scheduled to ride with their training partners and fancy swapping their tags for a black one please drop me a line, as far as i can see the tags are not specific for each rider
