Yeah, its a barrage of ideas isn't it.

Positive though, so far. I don't know anything about the people taking part, are they *all* pro-cycling? Might end up just being a bit of a circle jerk?

First red light comment! Quite reasonable though.

They do all seem a bit positive. Circle jerk is a good description.
Am I watching this on fast forward?

They're expected to know it all in-side out before they go in.

    Cycling's not rocket science.

Yeah, but they're talking faster than seems normal or natural.

Yes! "Cyclists don't pay road tax". Facepalm.

She said that bikes don't emit carbon and don't damage the roads. Both correct (in comparison to a car), but just not very 'slick'.

It's a weird seating pattern. Never seen anything like it.

Proper cross party. Seems parties cba to have a line on cycling safety.

Whoa, they mentioned the importance of a liability change...

So neglecting to use the "there is no Road Tax, you blithering idiot" approach?

Is the HoC debate the same as the 5L phone-in this morning? Have they started out with a good premise but it's quickly degeneratin into a series of anecdotes, half-truths & prejudices? If so, pull the plug now.

I phoned 5L this morning, not to make any specific point but to point out that what was billed as How To Make Cycling Safer hadn't even touched on the subject. It was nothing more than a couple of cycling protagonists and a procession of nutters who get angry at cyclists, building gradually but inevitably to the van driver who was last on who just couldn't grasp that if you overtake a cyclist who's doing 30mph and then turn left across him it's not difficult to see who's at fault, and it ain't the cyclist. Did I get on? Did I heck. At least I got to point out to the young Mancunian who I spoke with that Campbell has lost the plot and isn't driving the debate at all. Waste of time.

    No, its actually quite good.

Anecdotes include a female MP whose husband is her "knight in shining lycra" and who went for a tandem tour for her 50th birthday.
Commments include safer manhole covers, more training for all drivers (esp HGV), safer overtaking (motorists increasing the distance).
Fat bloke says he may start cycling.

It sounds like some of them might have actually thought about this.....

Or maybe, just maybe some cyclists have gone to constituency meetings or written to their MP about cycling issues. I know I've done the latter, although Edward Davey MP choose not to respond.....
