Cheers bud, checkin them out now0

Bought the superstar bolts cheers Specialeyes.
Bit of a dilemma over the wheels, not sure what to do. Got the big Scotland trip from the 24th May and superlight-bikeparts.de were due to have the wheels at my house on the 27th April, 30th I contacted them and they said "Tune can't supply us with the hubs for another 2 weeks". Nothing like a bit of communication!
r2-bike can build the wheel up in 2 weeks + shipping time for an extra €100, and they have the hubs in stock.
Haven't tried poshbikes yet, but assume they'd be even more expensive and they don't seem to do Flow rims on their website...
With no wheels I can't really check everything else is in order either. You'd think ordering a set of wheels 7 weeks before you need them would be enough! Seems I'm finding a lot of the German based bike stores, although having cheap prices are very bad at getting back to you.
Argghhh!!!0 -
Ended up cancelling the wheelset from Superlight, went with a handbuilt set from Clee cycles for £540
Bor hubs - http://bor-germany.de/en/products/20-mt ... untry-hubs
(made by Tune with Tune internal, as good quality)
ZTR Arch EX rims (builder talked me around that Flows were overkill for AM)
DT Swiss super comp triple butted spokes (stiffer than Sapim CX-rays apparently)
brass nipples
best bit is I can have them in about a week and the guy there Andy was more than helpful, sometimes good service should be rewarded!0 -
We won the war, the Germans don't like it up em mr mannering. So you should not expect good service to the uk. We are a hated nation abroad only the yanks seem to like us Brits.
Just to add we all need to get our economy going again, the pound and not the euro. I am not at all political but just sick of the expensive of living against poor wages. Last I will ever say on that on BR.
It's slowed me down getting my own Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon.Whyte JW2

Your wheelbuilder is a sensible man.
I was torn between Flows and Arch EX for my build too, decided to ctake a chance on the Arch EX and don't have a single regret. You'll add a little weight with the spokes, but if it adds noticable to stiffness it's worth it (although I have CX-rays and don't notice any flex, doubt many would).
I maintain that when this is finished it's going to be my "bike of the year". Good work.0 -
Dream machine and a serious candidate for my next bike. I do like the way DW Link bikes ride. Very jealous.0

Finally got a front derailleur (I think it was the last black 786-D left in Europe!) and the wheelset has been couriered today from Clee Cycles. Ended up weighing 1535grams and Andy said they looked spot on, so come Monday all the bits should finally come together!0

Last of the bits have arrived!
Shimano XT FD-M786-DL front derailleur
Fitted
Stans ZTR Arch EX rims, DT Swiss Comp Pro spokes, Bor MD-7 hubs, brass nipples, rim tape - 1535 grams courtesy Clee Cycles
Front wheel
Bor MD-7 front hub
Rear wheel
Rear wheel
Bor MD-7 rear hub - lovin the clicketty sounds!
Nearly there, just cassette/rotors/tyres/sealant/chain to add and dialing in brakes/gears...oh and shorten steerer once amount of spacers needed for good position is worked out.
Clear matte Heli tape has also been applied to cranks/headset/seat tube/bottom bracket just where it's needed, can hardly see it :-)
Brake and gear cables have been shortened a few times to get it right, neat cabling is a bit of a bitch but sorted now...well rear brake line could be a tad shorter.
Have tried wrapping the Reverb cable around the seatpost such as I saw Joe Barnes (I think) doing after he said it worked well without bunching up out the back too much, will see.
Now I just need my back to hurry the f up and heal up0 -
My god this is looking sexy, Can't wait to see it finished.0
-
needs green stickers on the rims and forks! gonna look ace when its done though.0
-
By eck ! this seems to be taking a long time to complete but it will look fecking gorgeous when it's done 8) .You must treat others with respect in order to be respected ..

Yeah waiting on the frame and wheels took most of the time.
Put the wheels together (tubeless set up was easier than I thought) and fitted and chain on now.
Never having used a maxle before it took me a while to work out I need to unscrew the little 2.5mm allen key one click before I could clamp it shut.
Couldn't get the rear gears dialled in last night after trying for about half hour, although I managed to get it in the small cog, the shifter just doesn't want to shift to the granny ring for some reason, I've tried adjusting the limit screws and had to lower the jockey wheel a bit initially but it had me scratchin me head. And yeah everything is 10 speed.
Well, have to go get the steerer cut tomorrow anyway so will get them to have a gander.
Set the sag on the rear shock, only took about 150 psi, maybe I've lost weight...
Weighed in at 12.1kg or 26.5 lbs for you imperiallists. If I wanted to race it and swapped to Nobby Nics and took the dropper post off it would be 11.3kg / 24.9 lbs, not bad for a AM bike :-)0 -
I've got the 29er version of those Arch EX rims and I love them! They are truly great wheels. I've got them with a Maxxis Maxxlite and a Maxxis Aspen. My wheels have DT 240s hubs though, not those fancy bor hubs. You must love that bike.“Don’t buy upgrades, ride up grades.”

Thats an impressive weight for sure with hans dampfs, HD's at about 25.9lbs at last weigh in. main difference other than tyres is the frames I guess, I know the mach's about a pound or so lighter, but 1 x10 saves alot on mine. Will probably end up with a Hans dampf on the front in a few weeks, they look very good. Top bike btw, look forward to seeing a completed picture!0 -
Well, finally it's all done!!
Got the steerer trimmed yesterday, a few minor tweaks and she's ready to get dirty.
It's been a long build process but learnt quite a bit and was fun, keen to see how it rides now, still not 100% after my surgery and the Scotland trip due this week I had planned for about last 6 months is still up in the air, but I'm sure it'll give me many years of wide grinning :-)0 -
-
Nice
Now get it dirty0 -
Top bike mate, looks superb 8) tip with the reverb remote, run it on the left hand side under the brake lever, syncs much nicer with the xt brakes then0
-
Oh my, you seem to have just built my dream bike with the identical spec I'd have picked (apart from pedals).
Now you just need to come on the cruddy weekender to GT/Inners in July so I can mate with it......errrm, I mean steal it......no, look at it. Honest.
Bike of the year!0 -
Phwor! Thats really, really nice- enjoy it!0

On a serious note, that is one nice bike... lovely build, I am mucho jealous.0 -
I am really jealous... demoed a 5.7 (alloy) on Sunday and it was fantastic. I *really* want one now (brochure next to me)... but they are way out of my price range!Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

WHy do you think im doing it on a budget!! If I dont like it ive not blown thousands!! Also its kinda hard to sneak the money past her indoors. "Oh it were only £20 love" wont work on a full bouncer carbon bike! However its working wonders on Ralph!!0
