Hmm, not a great start IMHO. I hope the component spec improves from here on in.A Flock of Birds
+ some other bikes.0 -
If it improves beyond a pair of grips, (and its in the green decal colourway) this will look bloody nice!0
-

DT Swiss 240S | NoTubes ZTR Flow
tyres - not sure yet whether to go tubeless or not
Building it up to be tough but light, mainly for Wales/Scotland/proper mountains trips.0 -
Damn this is gonna be nice!! I love the look of the 5.7 in green, perfect colour imo, and the spec looks great too, would have gone with fox forks myself, maybe 1x10 too, but that is gonna be sweet as 8)
wheel wise you can't really go wrong with either, would go for tune personally0 -
Yeah they come with the Fox 150's on the Pivot builds, but I read up on this years Rev and it seems like a cracker, and the dual position might come in handy for some of the uphills or on some of the flatter stuff down where I live. Few of my mates gave last years one's the thumbs up and they are a bit lighter than the Fox's too. I do like the Fox's on my Cube but we'll try something new I reckon.
We'll see how we go with the 2x10 first, I think the XTR shadow on the back will hopefully reign in any chain issues.
And I did use your recommendation for the wheels, so that's why I'm looking at the 2 from r2-bike, so thanks for the link ;-)
Looking forward to throwing the leg!0 -
r2 seem good, check out this place too.

seem like the same build but over £100 cheaper!
Like i say, i do like the look of the pivot, but looking at the geometry the bb seems abit high, and it has a pressfit bb shell and no iscg tabs, those three things kinda rule it out for me. incredible looking frame though0 -
Sweet, saved me €100, you're alright ;-)
The pressfit bb I'm not worried about, I don't think it's something thats going to need changing or maintaining that often, with the ISCG tabs, they are bringing out a gizmo for the frame soonish but I'm going to try without a chain device for starters anyway, with the xtr deraileur I'm hoping the chain will hardly come off (me mate has one on his 5 and he said his has never come off since using it) and I coudl do without the weight and noise of the chain device.
The high BB not too fussed about either, bit extra clearance and no one has complained about the turnability of it.
But, each to his own fer sure ;-)
Now, for the important issues, blue hubs (to match the pivot bolts, headset etc) or the black? The green is the wrong shade so it's one of these two.

black hubs and get some lime green decals from slik graphics for the forks and rims 8) Great quality stuff from them and made in the UK.
I do love the colour of the pivot, its just brilliant! seems to be quite popular atm, the whyte 146x and giant xtc29 have similar designs. Ibis did a custom matte black/orange HD for brian lopes last season, it would look insane in green 8)0 -
Looks like this could be a nice build, would have gone for a (medium) SG rear mech though0
-
Dirtydog11 wrote:Looks like this could be a nice build, would have gone for a (medium) SG rear mech though
He couldn't have got the XTR mech in medium. He's got a 38t big ring and the med mech only works up to 35t. (unless you're saying you'd have been running a 34t single ring on there too)
God I'm jealous! I want one of these SO bad.
Simply THE best looking frames around at the moment, and they are supposed to be outstanding to ride too. And you're building it with a spec almost identical to what I'd have picked too.
I hate you!0 -

The numbers Shimano quote i.e 35 for the SG and 41 for the SGS are total capacity
From CTC site
Total capacity – is the biggest difference in total numbers of teeth, front plus rear, that the mech can handle without letting the chain hang loose. Say you've got a 11,13,15,17,20,23,26,32 cassette and 24,36,46 chainset. The biggest combination is 46+32 = 76T, smallest 24+11 = 35T.
From Sheldons site

But again, you can generally push it a bit.
SG would be the best option.0 -
But Cat With No Tail, you haven't even met me and you hate me?! I am a cnut though to be fair.
OK so say I get the 38x26 and 11-36, by those calcs, 38+36 = 74, 26+11 = 37. 74-37=37. So the SG misses out by 2. Unfortunately 38x26 is the smallest XT go in their standard 2x10 draintrain, so I'd have to change the big ring.
I think you have to allow a bit for chain growth as well in longer travel full suss bikes.
btw in your calcs Ditrydog 46+32 = 78 not 76 ;-)0 -
Well, the SGS has been confirmed to be the one to go for in an excellent test by a helpful chap on mtbr. Also, it seems you should add 2 links for hardtails (after wrapping around the two large cogs) and add an extra 2 links for chaingrowth for a full susser.
Learn something new every day...then you die and forget it all...

So Aggs, any update on whether I get to ride this thing of yours in Scotland end of May (iggy ere )
could influence whether it's my next bike or wait for the carbon SB-66 :shock:0 -
Sure Iggy, I'll give you a try on her, I will require a bond of half a finger though before you take off ;-)
Yeah no worries, forks are in (at lbs), chainsets in, headset and bottom bracket in, should get the frame in about 10 days, going to order all the extra bits in about a week's time :-D0 -
OK, all parts ordered (despite the bank putting my card on hold half way through the orders, bastards!) so should be like xmas for the next few weeks.

anyone know if I need an adaptor for the brakes to fit onto the frame?
any recommendations for tyres for relatively light/grippy/tough use (or no such thing), was thinking Nobby Nics which I have experience with but kinda hard and expensive to test them all.
Got me bike stand the other day, ready to rock!0 -
Oh also wondering whether I should whack on a Blackspire Stinger (BB mount) or is it not needed with the XTR Shadow rear deraileur...
Would it be noisy, heavier and not needed or unnoticed, effective and the shit?0 -
-
Nobby nic gatestar compound, on my list of nextto do upgrades when my current nics wear out, supersoft shoulder compound, should grip like shit to a carpet and roll well too.
afaik, unless pivot have launched the iscg tab kit for the frame, you won't be able to fit a stinger, due to its pressfit bb, but with a shadow+ you shouldn't need one.0 -
K cheers, will check out those tyre suggestions, ah so the press fit aint compatible, I see. Well, I'll see how the shadow goes at least until they come out with their iscg adaptor.0
-
Think it's a toss up between those Nobby Nics and Hans Dampf's. Grip vs weight I suppose.0
-
Hans Dampfs are brilliant, rolling resistance is slightly more than nobby nics but grip is much better imo 8)0
