Wouldn't be tht good for Endura if he left, but if he really is the next big thing in the hills, then he has to think of number 1!

I assume Saxo Bank have space for one more?

Everybody seems a little unsure about what it is possible to do. Brian Smith said teams have already asked him about signing Tiernan-Locke for THIS season, so it must at least be possible.

Just saw the result and video on Velonation, awesome stuff.
  • He has to be picked up by a big team next year if he keeps riding like this...unreal.
  • Awesome, nice people don't always finish last.
  • The soonest he could sign for a Pro Tour or Pro Continental team would be August 1 (any recruitment to teams in these categories has to respect the transfer window) - I think!

Yep - gotta agree. I watched the climb and thought that I must have misread the result - it didn't look like the guy who jumped into the lead at the foot of the climb could possibly be caught in such a short space of time. Great stuff!

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Indeed, he timed it to perfection, very impressive.

The 10 previous winners of Haut Var certainly does justice as to what a great win for JTL and of course Endura this was. Chapeau that man.

  • incredible first few races for him, be interesting to see if he jumps ship or stays with endura if as expected they make the jump to pro conti for 2013, such a shame he got ill a few years ago otherwise he could have had a massive career, thats not to say he won't yet, he could do nothing else all year and it would still have been a very good year

My guess is that he has aimed to peak during this part of the season. Endura will probably switch to domestic races soon, where he won't need to be at such a high level. If you are aiming to get a contract for a bigger team, you want to make sure you are at your best for races outside Britain. On that basis it would be hard to predict how he would perform in a bigger race which is being targeted by star riders. Having said that, he now has 5 wins this season, which is the same number Ben Swift got last year. Great ride and brilliant for the Endura team. I'm sure lots of people were expecting the star rider for Endura to be a certain former Team Sky rider, but right now JTL is definitely the face of the team.

Thanks FF - presumably all these points that JTL has gained will help Endura on their mission to rise the pro ranks?

Very good point as endura will be targeting the races which will be there best chance for points. Early season is one of the times that high level riders are not at there best. Still good luck to the fella

I see on Endura team's upcoming schedule in the next 4 weeks is Tour of Murcia and then a 4 day Italian stage race that top Italian teams have done in past years, Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali... so JTL hopefully will stay with Endura another month and win again..great to see a small budget team show Sky how to find and develop a talent that clearly Sky's British managers/directors had not much noticed

Cracking result but I can't help wondering what the cynics on here would have been saying if he were South American or Spanish! It will certainly ease the pressure his DS was feeling a few weeks back following the money that has been invested into the team. Hopefully they'll be moving up to pro conti soon.

showing a lack of knowledge I am, but does a team in Endura's new situation have to hang around a whole year to upgrade to pro conti in 2013 or can they move up mid-season 2012??

I think it is on a season by season basis - I don't understand the system either. I had thought you apply for a licence and have to put bonds in place to cover rider wages if the team folds for pro conto and pro tour.

AFAIK, there is no mechanism to change status mid-season. All the rules are based on submitting a pre-qualification in the previous year to be awarded a licence. The only way around the submission schedule is if they were a ProTour team who had their PT licence application rejected for 2012

In any case, the step-up to ProConti may be far beyond what the sponsor wishes to contribute or how the squad can perform. Going to ProConti requires the guarantees to go from €20K to €250K, signing up to the biological passport programme (and all the costs that brings) etc. With this level of investment will come the usual sh1tfight for UCI points to gain entry to races (and exposure for the sponsors) and a move to sign riders with points rather than help develop "point-less" young riders.
There are also limitations on the number of new pros that can be in the squad each year.

The window for rider transfers (witihn the current season) doesn't open until 1st August.

  • Finally watched the whole 2 hours worth from France 3.
None other than Raymond Poulidor tipped him to win.
Not only impressive on the final climb, but he bullied the whole bunch
on the penultimate climb, as well.

Looks to be the real McCoy, but until this month, missed by almost every "expert", even the forum variety.
