  • He was solo on Wednesday doing repeats of Burrington, was going up and down for hours!!

Also spotted him Xmas eve last year, it was lashing with rain all day and horrible windy too. He was climbing Belmont Hill on his way home I guess at around 3pm, looked like he`d been out all day
  • Need some more of this.

Where I saw him - Burrington Combe. Lovely climb. It's basically round the corner on the Mendips from its more famous sibling, Cheddar Gorge. It's generally a much better option for cyclists; less traffic, fewer dozy tourists wandering in the road and fewer death-wish mountain goats...

Always get to the top in a bit of mess, though...

That sort of riding will set him in good stead for the Ardennes...

Far nicer climb than Cheddar. I always think Cheddar is over-rated after the initial section as you leave the village, it just becomes a boring drag.
  • Watching the Haut Var highlights today and I'm sure Carlton Kirby expressed his disappointment that JTL was not there to defend his title with the Endura team. Hasn't he heard???

Didn't think to write in the Mendips.
Have seen him plenty since he moved to Bristol, and no joke on xmas eve I had a pass to ride for a few hours but NO WAY was I going out in that storm!

Spotted today at Gunnislake climb on cornwall/devon border according to my mum!
  • Is this like transfer deadline day when various footballers are seen at service stations and airports all over the country?

I've seen him riding a fixie up Snake Pass...
  • He's riding P-N so these training rides had better be quality...

I had a chat with Harry Redknapp through the window of his car about him.

Quality! I've had a skim and it looks like a very nicely shot film. At over an hour long i'm going to save this for later and enjoy it! Cheers for the link! :D

Shame he was a "DNF" in all the ardenes classics, I know his form is not good and he was working for other riders but could have been so different had he signed for a different team. Hopefully he will have a chance later in the season.

Love to know which team would have magically given him form and given him a protected rider role. He's effectively a neo pro riding these races for the first time.

I'd say he could go and spend some time with Steve peters but apparently Steve is set to deal with Senor Suarez's inner chimp this summer...

Can we finally agree that winning a few chippers when most people are out of form does not mean that someone is a world beater?

Never did get the hype on this one. Another Biritish rider enjoys a good pay year with Sky a la Downing.

Sigh...we really do need to talk about Jonathan

As of now Josh Edmondson is doing the business and has adjusted to life at this level so much quicker. JTL was a DNF in all of the Ardennes - Edmondson didnt ride LBL but finished AGR and placed 43rd on Sunday. And he's turning out some decent TTs too, when he actually had ridden very few previously.

Did Brian Smith blab on air the other day that JTL can't cope with the Kerrison training load and has gone back to whatever he was doing pre-Sky?

Can't say I'm not disappointed to see very little of our boy, except the occasional glimpse up at the back of the peloton... but if his role has been to give his all be a team player for the first 2 thirds of a race/stage, what are we doing if we expect him to feature in the finale? Let's give the situation a bit longer to play out - to hear some candid opinions from the inside (DB, Kerrison, JTL himself...) might allay (or confirm) fears. Is he struggling, or is he doing exactly what's being asked of him?

I know, but not finishing any of the races? Not even 1?

I'll keep the faith, not throwing in the towel on the boy JTL, just 3 DNFs looked a bit stark

+ DNF at Paris-Nice, Crit. Int. and Pais Vasco: it's not just bowing out in one-dayers after having done the domestique work.
Perhaps not fair to compare, but in a similar situation Russ Downing had at this stage won a stage at the Criterium Int. and had 2 top ten placings in Murcia.

Probably not a fair one if you look at Russ as being an 'old hand' with much more experience, but agree its not just one day races though
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

He's certainly been a disappointment, but it's certainly too early to write him off just yet.
